im going for the first time this year. My father in law has been there 18 years straight and he finally talked me into driving one of his impalas there. Would love to meet some of the Buick board members if any of you are going. I'll be in this wagon. Sorry it's not a Buick. Maybe someday our G.S. will make the trip. Dan
I seen 3 Saturn yellow GSX cars and at least a dozen GS cars. I talked with one guy and he said his wasn't a real GSX. I think I only saw one 70-72 Skylark that didn't at least have a GS hood.
The one Q-Q GSX from Albany, NY in the Horticultural Bldg is the only real GSX that I’ve seen there in 18 years of going. There was a Bittersweet Mist 71 GS in the background that was really nice, and the blue 70 Stage 1 convertible is the real deal, one of 232 made. The 70 Stage 1 started life as a triple white car, had the original SS engine, BB trans, 246 carb and rear end. The distributor was MIA, and the owner bought it for $1100 44 years ago.
Al Krumm is one of the key people that run the Rhinebeck Spring meet. He is actually from the Red Hook/Rhinebeck area. He has a 70 BB Conv, as well as at least one 53 Skylark. Bleeds Buick Red.
Our 5-car caravan. I just got the engine installed and running this past week in my friends 70 Chevelle, a 10:1 572 tall deck making 750HP (need to find a hood still), my 70 GSX Pro Street car, Ken M’s green 70 GS 455 convertible, my son’s 70,000 mile unrestored Silver Anniversary 79 TA 400 4-speed, and my red 72 GS convertible.
This is our five car group. Sorry no Buick's were used in this trip. But it definitely inspired me to work on the gs. Hopefully I'm still inspired when I get home today lol. Was a good first trip all though attendance the tell me was way down.
It was a conscenus among our small Buick group that this was a banner year for Buicks this year. 8,000+ cars, but since they opened things up by getting rid of the dirt track and grandstand, things don’t seem as crowded. Hottest year that I can rememember too.
Definitely a nice Buick showing. Cheri spent a lot of time in the new expo center in the a/c that's for sure. Luckily I'm one of those stupid people that like the heat.
