Gee - I thought 200 MPH was fast! Record set at Texas Mile. https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/25/ford-gt-300-mph-record-standing-mile/
Amazing! And he did it with what looks like a stock body-I wonder what it felt like at that speed? (Sure, the GT was shaped in a wind tunnel, but still!) Patrick
Thats cool and all, but it's also pretty bonkers. Hit a pothole or even a bump in the road at that speed - it wouldn't be pretty.
I've been almost 250 in the 1/4 and the only thing nuts is Me.... Because I can't wait to get closer to 300.
Amazing, but a 2006 would have to be emission legal. If that car will also pass emissions testing, I'm really impressed.
That is amazing, I wonder how much wind tunnel time was spent to see how that body design would react at that speed. I'm sure they wouldn't want to discover that it would fly at 280. You can bet they went over the surface of the Texas mile with a fine tooth comb!
It could be licensed depending on the state you're located in....It'd be just the same as registering any other Ford GT here.
He was "only" doing 278 back in 2014 at Beeville and he has bumped up the top speed at almost every event he attends. You'll notice his door says 293 and that is what the event sticker says and next year it will say 300. I'm sure the airport at Victoria has got to be smoother than the one at Beeville because it is always in use and the section used at Beeville was really used only for the event and was from WW2. His Gulf colored car and the black GT behind me are only "slightly" less aerodynamically challenged than my '76. Great looking engine compartment and those tires have to be screaming for traction with that power. Great event to attend even just to watch except very few cars older than 2000 as all Top Speed events(on a hard surface) other than the ECTA events.
what I find amazing is it doesn't look like it leaves with the knock you back in seat type launch, but clips 175 in the 1320, gains another 65mph by 2640 and yet another 60 mph in the last 2640. at 240mph your covering 350ft per second. and at 300mph your cover 440ft per second.....so in the last 6.7ish second he travels 2640 ft and gains 60mph doing it. simply amazing
Friend of ours, Josh Kalis (pro skateboarder) does that type of racing with a highly modified '69 Camaro. Car has been repainted, no stripes. Many upgrades, including engine, since then.
