what is he best way and first step to get these restored? Is it send to a chrome plating place first and then paint the edges body color?
Probably cost you $600-$800 to restore the ones you posted pics of. You can pick up a really nice set for probably $300 and up. Not sure what a NOS set would set you back
Parts cars down here have dried up. You might get lucky and find a four door but it will be usually either stripped or heavily damaged.
A lot of chrome shops will wipe this line out . I would discuss it with whatever company you choose .
Mine were done about two years ago by R & D Finishing in Elizabethton TN. Mine had some pitting. I showed them the line pictured above and talked to them about what I expected. They said that they could handle it. I dropped them off a week before the GS Nats. While I was there walking through the concourse cars (actually drooling) it dawned on me that you can see the backside of the bezel when the hoods up (I hadn’t thought about that). I called and asked if they’d started mine yet. They said no. I explained that I’d like the backs nice since they’re visible when the hoods up. They said ok. I was blown away when I picked them up. Very VERY pleased. I’m thinking it was around $275 each. The receipt is at home in one of my many GS folders. Mark
Thanks for the info, they estimated about 300 or so each based on pictures for just doing the front sides. Extra to clean up the back side. We'll see...maybe I can find a better driver quality set for a couple hundred and then save up and redo mine.
