I know, but I thought this was pretty good. Guy is a little long winded so you can skip ahead to the actual reviews (he does two different sets).
I quit using Fram fifteen or more years ago when one failed on a pretty high dollar motor and sent pieces of filter through my whole oil system. Been using Wix and Napa Gold ever since. He makes some good points.
A company I worked for stocked several brands including Fram. I thought it was odd that the only customer who liked them was a Ferrari parts supplier, but a lot of his customers wanted OE... Patrick
Fram is/was OE for Ferarri. Fram has 3 levels of filters. The video pitted the cheapest one against them. I wonder how rusty my various brand filters are that I've had for years on the shelf.....
Have met two individuals in Ariz, neither who knows each other. Both have given "cut open" demonstrations to myself of Fram oil filters. Half to wonder, does Fram know about this negative reviews? Are they doing anything to counter or change and improve??
They are! Commercials, sponsorships and big displays at Wal Mart to drive sales among the less knowledgeable d.i.y. crowd. That plan is a lot cheaper than making a better product. Patrick
^^^This^^^ Frams a marketing company that happens to sell filters. And I've seen ithat method work effectively too (unfortunately).
Good information. Just curious how the AC filters compare? I have heard the new AC ones are pretty crappie too, so if that’s true what do the pure stock looking guys do?
Read through this thread. There's a few guys that use a wix and a decal to look like a period correct AC Delco. Pretty slick.
What kind of failure? In 45 years I've never had a failure that I knew of on any brand of filter.... What am I missing?
Anti-drain back valve failure on two top-of-the-line Frams, not the cheap ones. These events happened more than a year apart. In between I used another brand of filter with no problem. I don't buy Fram filters because of their bad reputation but I needed to change my oil and the only filter the store had to fit my truck was Fram. With two days of installing it, I would start my truck in the morning and the engine would make a terrible clattering for about 30 seconds before it would quiet down to normal. I replaced the Fram with my normal brand and the cold start racket went away. A year or so later the same situation happened again when the only filter I could find to fit it was a Fram. A few days later, it started making the cold-start racket. Replaced the Fram with my normal brand, and once again, the noise went away. No more Fram filters for me, ever.
