Good deal for the R code Mach I and the Super Bee which would be a 6 pack car with a 440 in 1970. But who had the money back then.
The heater was normally a "delete" option. The cars came with them, but if you lived somewhere that doesn't get cold you could order the car without the heater and save a handful of dollars. I once saw a '54 Olds (in Medfield, MA!) without a heater. The radio on less expensive cars was usually an option. When I worked in a Ford dealer in the early to mid-60's, most of the new cars arrived with no radio; the dealer installed them.
Thats true, as an engineer I made $5.00 an hour in 1971 and was the second highest paid employee. My car payment for my 69 GS was $105 /month for 36 months. Nearly paid off in 1971.
As a Junior in High School, I was making $48 per month car payments. I was working a couple part time jobs after school. That seemed like a lot of money to me back then, but I wanted a nice car.
The Karmen Gia was only $200 to $300 cheaper than the 70GS, the Mach1 and Firebird Ok I know it was 1970's dollars but still.....
You know some dope went in and bought that instead of the '70 Super Bee for the same price............
In 1973, I sold my 1969 RS/SS 396 4-speed Camaro for $1,500 and at the time, that was all it was worth. The wife never could drive a 4-speed.
My Dad had a '66 GTO 4 speed as his high school car, and graduated in 1973. Traded it in for $800 toward a '73 Torino Brougham. As much as I like Torinos, it's fun to flip him crap on that one.....Said he saw it going toward the reservation with 8 natives piled in a couple days later, and they had removed his air shocks and Torq-Thrusts so it was dragging tail.
Here's some more ads, it's a 1969 paper in Portland Oregon. On one of the pages they are really pushing the new for 1969 Subaru
