This came on a 1968 GS I had .........I wonder if it would bolt in a 1964 A-body? Or even what other years it would fit in.

I think a member was making these......

    Any help us appreciated.

Work great 68-72, not sure about prior years. As noted, Steve might be able to clarify. I know he stopped making them,as I think I got one of his last ones.

I have one I bought from Steve when he closed them out. Wouldn't work on my cross member, for some reason it doesn't have the flat "lip" it needs. I've always wanted to modifiy the loop to make it fit but never have gotten around to it.

    OPGI sells a one-piece loop for A-Body.
I got one from them and installed on my 70 after painting in Buick Red, of course.

    Hi
I use two 1/8” thick x 1-1/2” dia washers, ground an edge down on each to a D shape and meet that straight edges in the middle and it’s perfect!

I can't remember the loop I used, but it is the one that mounts to the support brace through the floor boards. Fits great and is very stout. Better leverage than the one that mounts to the trans mount. I feel it is safer but I have no proof.

I've been holding onto it for my 64 Skylark. I was hoping it would just bolt in and fit right with the trans tunnel shape.
I know on the 68 GS it was right up against the tunnel and was a pain to align on that car..... I gave up and took it off.

My car also has a long tail 400 in it so I had to use the rearward holes for the cross member ... Unsure if that would affect this one fitting also.

If it wasn't -7 degrees I would get under the car and test fit it. Looks like it's going to be cold for a while and I don't have heat in my garage.

This may sound like a dumb question.....did you use a hole saw and just bolt to the brace or does the bolts tighten down on the actual floorboard?

I'm not too familiar with the cross members prior to 1968. You would need to compare them to see if they are the same. Even then it may contact the floor pan as they are likely different also.

O used one very similar to the one in Jim's picture. I drilled through with one of those step bits till I got the width I needed. The only hole which posed a challenge for me was one of them on the driver's side was right in line with the bucket seat mounting bracket which is welded to the floor. Had to drill a hole throgh the bracket to get to the floor to drill hole in floor. I think I actually drilled the rest from the undercarriage up so I knew the holes would me in the right place. If I drilled from the top down I couldn't see where the slots in the loop were.

    No dumb questions here,
I drilled up through the floor from below (no interior at the time ) . I made 2 plates from 3/16 thick diamond plate for the top ,or inside the car, drilling 2 holes through each for the bolts. Jim/Rott

I prefer the Metco unit myself.I have been told when these were installed wrong, you had a chance of breaking the trans tailshaft..

If it was put in between the trans and the mount I can see where its possible for it take out the housing. If installed under the mount it would isolate it enough to keep that from happening but it could only go one way or the other not both obviously
