shipping, 1968 GS long distances 1,1900 miles to Ohio with the engine in the trunk. any and all information on how to put the engine in the trunk. moreover, does anyone know of a shipping company willing to deliver the engine and 68 GS for less than $1,600.00 Montana to Ohio
Can I buy the GS? Lol.....Just moving you to the top. Only a little high based upon I heard from American Pickers.
I would put a "moving blanket" (quilted padded blanket like movers use) on the trunk floor, then 3/4 plywood, cut to fit and then set the engine in and block it with 2x4 cut to fit and screwed with decking screws, then a couple of ratchet straps or cardboard boxes folded to stuff in and make it as packed and padded as I could. It would cost about $30 and take about an hour, but the time and expense vs damage, would be my motivation.
Use a broker to bid the trip. If the engine shifts in the trunk, you could put a big dent (a/k/a as a big outie) in a quarter panel.
the going rate for auto shippers is $1.00 minimum. per mile. ----- usually $1.25 &up. per mi. every now and then, your find someone who wants to fill a slot, and MAY drop to .80 a mile but rare. AND........ non running is an excuse they use to charge more, ( most all have a winch,) ( so why extra?)
The Riviera shipped on an open trailer was $1600 from Rhode Island to Montana. We've shipped cars from Las Vegas to the port in Seattle for about the same.
I had an engine in the trunk of my 65 Fairlane shipped from Al to SC and it dented the floor pretty good; just make sure it doesn’t move around
