You need to get a dual sensor unit. You do have dual exhaust don't you? I use the FAST unit which is about $400.
Ordered this one, I will put a bung in each side so if I want to compare. Does the bung just go about in the center of the collector? I know it has to go at least 10* above horizontal center line. thanks guys, Keith
I hope to get the chance to install the A/F monitor this weekend. what should my ratio's be? thanks. Keith
Kit I bought had ratio chart with it. 13-14 cruisin/idle .... Just scrolled back and saw unit you purchased. ... I bought the next one up , AEM. Will have a chart in directions....Jim
14.7:1 is the stoichiometric fuel/air ratio for complete combustion. Modern fuel injection tries to maintain that ratio. Ideally, that is what you want light load cruising. My engine idles in the 13's and actually gets to 14.6-15.1 while cruising at 60 MPH. At WOT, in high gear, it was 13.0 at the track. That is with the Q-jet.
there is no chart in the directions telling me what the ratios should be. just to be sure can anyone tell me if i leave the calibration switch on the factory default of PO? thanks, keith
Latest update. Took the car to the track 2wks ago for a hot rod rumble car show,(pre 1978), just wanted to take it down the track a few times to check my A/F at WOT. Drove it 2 hours to the track with the street tires aired up and a trunk full of " insurance". A/F at WOT was mid to high 13's hitting 14.1 at the lights. They decided to run 2 classes of bracket races because there was a lot of A/FX super stockers there for a race the next day. the classes were race and street eliminator, thought what the hell I'm here and the car was running consistant 14.73's in street trim, 3/4 tank of gas and 100lbs of crap in the trunk. Ended up loosing out in the finals to a big block chevelle. Went ahead and jumped up 2 on the secondary jets to richen up my WOT Back to the track yesterday with the DR's and all the stuff out of the trunk. A/F at WOT on the first pass was still mid to high 13's and the temp was about 55deg. forgot to look at the moniter on the next 4 passes. A/F was low 11's at WOT on the last pass and about 65deg. shifting 1-2 @ 5500, staying in 2nd and going thru the lights at 5800-5900. Turning consistant 14.3's @ 95mph but still cant get my 60's down below 2.01, Last T&T and race for the year is this coming wknd and plan on going if the weather holds. thought I'd mix 3 gal. of 106 octane with 2 gal of 91 just to see what happens. (should end up as 100 octane). Should I put in hotter or colder plugs?
Fast forward 1 yr. Went to the track this past wknd to get some info to compare the stage 1 intake to the SP3. 60'-2.02 (has never been under 2.01) 1/8 et-9.12 1/8 mph-75.64 1/4 et-14.29 1/4 mph-95.18 this was the best pass of the day leaving off idle, 1-2 shift 5800, going thru lights in 2nd @5900 the ABQ track is 5300' in elev. with the DA at least 7000-8000' This winter I'm changing to the SP3 and will only do what tuning is needed to make the A/F correct and any changes needed to timing. The intake is the only change I will make before I go back to the track in March. (track is open 1st wknd in March and closes mid Nov.)
It's gonna take awhile, $500 is easier to come up with than $3000+. And I really want to know what just a intake change can do. Keith
