I need the skinny 3-spoke stocker that isn't cracked. Got lots of Buick HiPo parts to trade, cash, and a small amount of '58 special stuff (a speedometer. taillights, etc).
Dan, I don't have a wheel for you, but have you listed your hi-po parts for sale in the For Sale dept.? Maybe people will buy your parts.
I know it can be done but I don't know who does it. I saw an article in a muscle car magazine showing how to do it many years ago. They filled the cracks with an epoxy, sanded it smooth and painted it.
I am thinking, 67 and 67 Skylark, GS and LeSabre used the same wheel, most are cracked, There is a Co that will recast them, but they do not have a nice one to make a mold for 67/8. They are doing a project of 65/6 Skylark/GS wheels at this time for members on 65GS.com. I did talk to them about a 67/8 and if they had a nice not cracked one for a mold, they could do them.
I checked the last 3 issues of Hemmings before I posted, no soap. Lots of wheel covers, gearboxes, later and earlier wheels, NOS, repro, and junkyard wood '68 wheels, and other steering stuff, but no plain Jane '68 wheels or anyone who says they can restore one. If anyone knows of a vendor or an uncracked wheel or a DIY kit or a web site with instructions or any lead at all, please let me know. I may try some of the Eastwood filler stuff but would rather have a plan B in hand before I take the risk. If you've been hording one, I'm the guy you've been waiting for - whatever it takes to get you to part with it. Thanks, Dan
Any idea how "not cracked" it has to be? You have to get pretty close to mine to see the minor cracks, maybe an imperfect model would work? If you'd let me know who they are I'll call them and post what I find out for everyone's benefit.
I sold an NOS wheel to Chuck a year or 2 ago. I have another, but I'm not too keen on selling it. I might consider swapping it for a repro GSX wheel.
hmmm I have a NOS 67 steering wheel that is perfect (Thanks Jim ) is the process of reproducing them harmful to the wheel?
Found this guy before when researching. I have had really nice 65 Wildcat wheels but always am on the lookout for help. Jim, the 67 you sold to me "came" with a perfect NOS blue wheel. In the box, too. http://www.steeringwheelbob.com/process-pricing
This is the Co, 65GS.com people are using to do over 12, 65/6 wheels as a group. Should be receiving restored wheels back shortly. As I said, I talked to them about a 67 and they did not have a good core for a mold.
