I recently purchased a set of CPP C5 Corvette style tall spindles to go with the CPP tubular control arms. The spindles use a modern style sealed hub and require C5 compatible brake calipers. That's not a big deal because I was in need of a brake upgrade anyway. I butchered the ball joint boots removing the other spindles so I'm waiting for a set of replacement boots so I can complete the install. Here's how it looks now. I realize the rotors are on the wrong side but I just threw them on to see how they look. The spindles and brakes I just removed are SSBC rotors, stock height spindles and single piston calipers. They are in excellent shape and will be listed in the Parts for Sale forum as soon as I clean them up and take some pictures.
Cool. I assume you haven't had an alignment yet. It looks like you have a lot of negative caster but it could be camera angles. Are the upper control arms on the proper sides? You want positive caster, right? The lower ball joint should be ahead of the top one.
It does look that way in the picture. Not as much in person. It will get an alignment as soon as the lower ball joint boots are replaced. I'm curious what the current alignment numbers are. Control arms are installed on the proper sides. Bump stop in the front on the lowers and the upper ball joint mount curves to the rear.
Got the alignment done today. Caster was in spec based on 1964 numbers, which is slightly negative. I was shooting for 5 degrees positive caster with the alignment today but the most we could get was just under 4 degrees +. The tech did not feel comfortable inserting more shims and leaving less than 2 threads on the rear upper control arm bolt. I can live with it though. Love the increase in steering effort.
No clearance issues with the 17x8 rims. Anything smaller than 17” diameter definitely won’t work. I did use a .090 spacer to give me adequate clearance between the spokes and the face of the caliper (about .100).
