Brian, What is left to do on the car? I think I remember there not being a cowl screen and wiper motor?
Correct Chris! It is not a frame off #1 trailer queen and as such has room for further investment. More pictures and description on the way. Tires are Diamondback Toyo's Wheels are genuine GM WGs Lug nuts are one off solid stainless Metco Center caps are really nice-I think they were NOS but can't remember anymore New 2.5 T/A exhaust all the way back with the RV Flowmasters You can see there is a bend in the right lower swing arm While we're under here, the fuel gauge has never moved in the time I've owned it-best gas mileage ever. Okay-more like frequent fill ups to prevent unscheduled camp outs. If anyone wants to call, operators are standing by!
If the fuel gauge is showing FULL it is probably the ground wire from the tank to the trunk. Could be broken or not making contact. Had this on two 69s.
History: Probably delivered new to Tabor Motor Company in Toccoa, Georgia and sold to a woman from Gainesville. It was traded into Tabor on a full size Pontiac in 1973 and sold to a young woman going to college. She sold it in 1977 to Tabor once again and it was resold to a native of Toccoa that had moved to the Charlotte area. That woman had bought it to parade around her High School football hero son. After he graduated- North Carolina motor vehicle records indicate quite a few owners in that state and then it was sold to the fellow I bought it off of and he brought it to SW Ohio in 1999. He kept it in a storage garage in the winter and was driving it on decent weather days to work. That's where I saw it in 2002 and he sold it to me a year later. It had the original engine and transmission in it at the time. Both worked well except the flywheel had a dead spot. When I replaced it I damaged the pump in a rookie move, so I had a local guy rebuild a TH400 out of a '70 GS455 that I had laying around and installed that. Also when I bought it the 400" was running hot. I tried this and that and found the timing cover passages nearly corroded shut. I'm a big 455 fan so I bought one off one of our members on here from western Kentucky and did the oil pump plate, timing gear, rocker arms, oil pan gasket and a few other things. It might have a cam in it. I did a compression test years ago and it was fine then...doubt its changed much. Radiator was replaced with your average 3 row then and could probably use it again as that's been 15 years. Steering box was sent out and rebuilt. The rest of the suspension with the exception of the rear springs (new) is exactly how I bought it and could probably use a full rebuild, however nothing is imminently due, if you know what I mean. The GS has been in a climate controlled garage the vast majority of the time I've owned it.
Trunk area is Zolatone. IIRC the shop where the work was done (I also worked there during that time) did a lot of experimenting and I think the owner even bought a new gun to shoot it. Factory looking and so far, durable as well. We had a nice evening here so I got the car out for some "lights on" pictures with a new camera I recently purchased.
My 69 vert has the same squared off hood emblems as yours. Seen several other ragtops with the same. Wondering why they have different 400 emblems than the hard tops ? No one has been able to explain this to me yet. I had 2 69 hardtops and my brother and friends 69s with the swept back 400 emblems as available in repro form. Great pics of your car! Any banks close to you that I could rob , meet up and make a quick get away ? ; )
The ones on Brian's car look correct to me .. I also went to OPGI and The Parts Place -> the 400 repro emblems they sell as correct (hardtop or convert) look the same
The car is beautiful Brian. Can you tell me about your new camera? Wife is shopping for one and she is begging for input. PM me if you'd like. Don't want to derail your thread.
