This might seem like an odd question, but does anyone know the internal measurements of 70-72 Buick Skylark's dash ashtray, compared to that of a 70-72 Chevelle? I'm wondering if they're remotely similar as a place sells a cup holder attachment for a 70-72 Chevelle that goes into the dash ashtray slot, but not for the Buick Skylark. Thanks in advance - Rob
I own a 70 gs455 and a 72 chevelle and i also have a cup holder attachment for the chevelle,it does not fit in the Buick
Bummer; well, that's what I needed to know. If you don't mind me asking; what, if anything, do you use in the Buick? I'm asking because my '72 is bucket seats and a console and right now I'm just putting my drink on the floor in the back during long drives. Just in search of something that can be used or an attachment that'll work so my passenger and I have somewhere to put our drinks.
I open the console door put some micro fiber towels around drink so it doesn't tip/spill. Just temp. for now. If your handy you could get one and modify/rebuild the piece that slides in ashtray.
Buick's little wider and thinner. The holder goes into the empty slot in the ashtray door AFTER you remove the ashtray itself. On theBuick the ashtray is a one piece deal.
Gotcha. Dang. Might have to buy a Chevelle one and try making some kind of adapter that'll fit around the cup holder piece and hold it in place once the Buick tray is removed. Try to get everything finalized before Hot August nights in Reno in a few months. It's minor, but I would hate cruising that long without a place to put my beverage (sounds kind of ridiculous, I know, but when it's going to be 90+ out it'll be worth having).
I realize that this may be a little crude since a lot of you guys keep your cars pristine but I use mine every day and she's not exactly a "perfect" car (as indicated by the '70 console in the '69). I needed a place to put my coffee and didn't want to permanently mount anything. What I did was to take a piece of scrape plastic, heated/bent it into an inverted "L" shape... cut out an opening to hold the cup, made a spring clip from some scrape spring steel and... simply clip the holder onto the passenger side bottom of the console. If I want to clean up the car, I simply unclip it, no harm, no foul. It's in the perfect place though and works well. Hope this helps someone and, please, pardon the need for vacuuming, I just got back from Lime Rock... Happy sipping!
Very inventive. Not sure what I'm honestly going to get. As of right now, I'm considering getting a cup holder that normal goes over the transmission hump, and putting it over the hump in the back and seeing if it holds. I'm just pretty sure it's a little too long for it to work securely.
