I got Jambs and a few misc. pieces/areas. Next week I should have full color. never thought I would see the day. Honestly. so much work.
Make sure you crimp tape on the door jambs. Then put 3m thick foam on top of tape keeps dirt out of paint job. If you fold edge of tape over to touch glue side. Then the tape actually never touches the paint. Hence no paint line. And the foam will keep the paint from forming thick paint edge. Hey don't forget to hang a chain on the body underneath. Not frame. Cars not grounded. Each time your arm goes back in forth. You will create static charge. Please use slowest hardener possible. I hate when guys use fast/ Medium hardener. On over all . When the skin of last coat drys before the paint underneath. Solvent WILL force its way out . And put tiny little holes in paint . From popping shell. To escape. Hope this helps . Red is Beautiful.
Lookin' good! Is that lacquer? If not, you may have some issues at the places where the tape was. Enamel and acrylic (and all that new stuff) should be painted from edge to edge, with no paint parting lines. Can't fade it in like lacquer. I love that color, though! I think you picked the most expensive one. Maybe yellow is most expensive since it covers so poorly? All I know is that I have an orange truck, and that paint ain't cheap. I went and priced the quantity for a repaint. [shocked and rolling over dead emoji]
Joe this is what the tape should look like. Notice my finger and thumb go down the tape evenly! Has to be even.
It's a solvent based two part. should be just fine. painting it piece by piece in my garage. Yeah, the factory color is pricey. I am using a up and comer in the paint industry. TAMCO paint. the price was half of what PPG wanted and it laid down real nice. going to do larger pieces today and that should tell how the body is going to go. pic of progress as it goes.
I painted the roof of my truck's cab with some sort of enamel from PPG. I'll go look at the can when I get some ambition. I went camping last weekend, and I'll be damned how that counts as relaxation time, what with going to the storage lot, hooking up the trailer, driving to the campground, setting everything up while everybody else stands around and watches, doing everything but making most of the meals, then packing it all up and driving back, and then going to the storage yard and parking the trailer, I will never know. It was nice when I could throw a backpack, tent and some vittles and water in the trunk and disappear into the bush for a week. I'm still pretty tired.
LOL, I had to give up my motor home. it was worse then a full time job. couldn't wait to get back to work where I could relax. resorts and room service
