Guys I'm trying to upgrade my cooling system. I purchased a fan shroud from CARS for 62-64 that needs the brackets that only came on AC cars. Was also wondering if 62-64 uses a bigger fan blade. Mine is only four blades with no clutch. I think the pulleys are also smaller on AC cars. Was curious what OE options from later years that may work for me? Would also like to add a fan clutch. Any ideas?
Re: Need pictures of 62-64 full size Fan shroud or cooling upgrade options for 61 LeS You may need to find an AC car in a junk yard for the parts you need. I believe the fan is the same size (not positive on that though), as are the pulleys other than the AC cars had 3 groove pulleys of course. American Classics in Vancouver, WA has a few 62's, check with them on the brackets and clutch fan. You might also check in with Les Modrow on this forum, he has at times had a fair amount of early 60's big car parts.
Re: Need pictures of 62-64 full size Fan shroud or cooling upgrade options for 61 LeS Fan is different and also utilized a clutch. Pulley is smaller and has an additional groove. It's tricky swapping pulleys and brackets between years as the offsets differed, as I have come to find out. As was noted your best bet is to get all the pulleys/brackets from ONE parts car ('62-'66) to avoid the headache. This may include the alternator/generator bracket and power steering bracket too. Or you can mix and match and hope it comes out close. Or return the shroud and go electric?
After I built the 425 for this car, I never could get it to run as cool as I wanted. Added a 5 blade fan system, new 4 core radiator and a fan shroud from a 68-69 skylark. I had to do some basic modifications to the shroud to fit, and I installed a couple extra brackets on the lower sides. It all worked like a charm, 180 - 190 even in traffic in the summer. It can be done
