Hey guys, haven't posted in sometime but my Skylark is finally back on the road. After I drive the car for a while and everything is nice and up to temp for a little while when I go to park the car, like normal move the shifter from drive to neutral then as it goes into reverse the car damn near dies. Going into neutral the rpms come up to around 900 and then when put into gear bam! Tach drops down to 0 for a split second then shoots right back to 700 or whatever its idle is. And if I am driving it long enough even as I sit at a stop light the tach will flicker but not nearly as much as it does as parking it. I thought maybe its a fuel problem but an old friend says its spark. Water temp is fine at 180ish... The car doesn't die but it bugs me, any ideas anyone?
Yes pretty much all stock 72Skylark. The 455 is from a '70, just has and edelbrock intake, and headers. The internals are stock. It has a quadrajet and has been converted to an HEI distributer. The carb has been rebuilt about a year ago but it was doing it even before the rebuild. Had the car about 19 years and its kind of always done this.
Cool Ill check into that thanks, I just don't know why it does it only after its been running a while. How do I check to see if the vacuum is working correctly? Sorry but I'm kind of new to spark timing and such...
Ok, replaced the vacume advance, mechanical advance springs and weights, plug wires, retimed the initial timing, and even replaced the ol quadrajet with an edelbrock performer carb. the problem still is there, though not quite as bad but. I only seems to be around the 950rpm range as the motor is decelerating.... any ideas?
