I have two brothers who were Army - both in Korea. If you ask them about their service, one gets really quiet and will try to change the subject. I guess that Korea wasn't a great place to be in 1950. The other grins and will act a bit embarrassed. He was nominally a tanker, but was placed into "special forces" due to his having been a good enough baseball player to be scouted by a couple of major league teams. He spent his time in Korea playing baseball. Apparently the Army had several teams that would play each other for the entertainment of the troops. To this day Tom claims that this was the softest two years of his life, and he got paid for it.
