There's no doubt about the fact that you are going to blow yourself up trying to do that! Research wet flow benches. PTS Flowbench forum, maybe Speedtalk advanced.
I was thinking of using mineral spirits, flamable but dont smell so bad. My shop vac has a filter in it, i could also put an inch or so of water on the bottom, or slightly dampen the filter. I have vacuumed up gas before, even carb cleaner sprayed into threads of block for heads. Worst case it may make a flame thrower out the exhaust , but highly unlikely. I do thank you all for the concern , because i really hadn't given it any thought. So at least i will be aware of the fact that I may blow myself up,
If you look above the discharge tube, the shaft above the tube, thats what ive done. The left side and pic is un modified. The right pic is the right side with the shaft above the tube grinded away. My thinking is that with air able to pass over the front of the tube, instead of on either side only, Im looking for more spray, If that is the case then i will need to figure if im just making it over rich, for that if need be i have every hanger from B on down and a variety of most sec needles. i was using a C hanger with AX DR needles, yes the needles have AX stamped horizontal and DR stamped verticaly on each. It could be AR DX , too. Nothing special just odd , all my other needles have only 2 letters stamped.
I mentioned earlier that I has a ax , dr sec needle , it's actually a dx, dr still don't know why has 2 sets of letters
For goodness sake, stop thinking you need to test with some kind of flammable liquid. Water is even closer to gasoline's viscosity than mineral spirits, kerosene, fuel oil, diesel, etc. Devon
Regarding some Q-jets that have a box attached to the secondary divider plate. I have heard from stock/Super stock racers that they are the hot ticket. So I decided to try it on my low 12 second "stock" 1971 GS 455. I did some track testing with and without the "dual box divider" I immediately noticed a difference. Almost a full MPH difference, so the boxes definitely have an effect.:Brow: Unfortunately, it was a negative difference on my 71 car and I never got to play with them again.ou: It would be interesting to test with an O2 sensor to see what is actually changing. Also be aware that when testing, there are multiple variables and I have found out may times what works or does not work for one car may have completely different results on another car with differing tune-up.
One thing to note on using a divider with the "box" on them. They will limit the angle of the secondary flaps when fully open no matter how much you have ground off the stop. This alone can make a difference in how well the carb works, as folks tend to grind too much off the stop and have the flaps too far open when modifying these carburetors......Cliff
Yes The more I ground off the throttle shaft , the slower the fuel drained from bowl at wide open throttle. So the air flow was less and so was the siphon or draw on the fuel through the secondary circuit. One thought I've had is a screen or something at the end of the secondary nozzles may help break up / atomize the spray. I have seen the boxed divider only ounce and at the time had no idea wat I was looking at.
