I didn't know this for several months after buying my 70, but it still has the protecto plate in the glove box. I displayed it at the car show 2 days ago, and was surprised that nobody seemed to know what it was. Its still on the cardboard sheet given out to the first owner with all his information (name, address, etc). I know what it is and how important it is to trace the history of the car, but just how 'rare' are they nowadays?
I have one but its not for my car.Found it at a swap meet. The parts car came with all its original paper work
I have all the info for my Riviera, P-O-P, Window Sticker, Owners Manual, Accessories Info Brochure, 8 Track Info, Key Nos., ect. - don't think they are rare, as every car had one, and it usually lived in a dealer folder that was stored in the cars glove box. If you look real close at the edge of each page, the VIN number of the car is punched through the P-O-P booklet. and it appears on each and every page. It was used primarily for dealer scheduled maintenance inspections on the car, and for dealer warranty claims for any warranty related repairs or parts that were needed for the car. A lot of them were removed, lost, or separated from the glove box at some point through the life of the vehicle, so finding an original P-O-P is a pleasant surprise! Now days, they still use the VIN number along with an OBDII reader. :TU:
Still got all the books, manuals and plate for my car. And two of the build sheets. I never thought they were interesting enough to put out at a car show. Maybe I'll do that next time.
Why is that??? All the junkers I buy always have every stitch of paperwork. On all the nice cars, the glove boxes are empty!
most of the original body parts are long gone from my heap but yes the p-o-p still resides in the glove box where it's been since 12/69 or so
I have the p-o-p and window sticker for my 65 GS Post 3 Speed. Also the original sales order, owners manual, accessory book, dealer brochure. Good stuff to have, especially for 65 Gran Sports since the serial #'s were not designated til 66.
Got the protecto-plate, owner's manual, window sticker, build sheet, and warranty booklet for my 67 Skylark Convertible. Originally a California car, which is probably why it is so rust free...
I got the p-o-p and manuals with my 69 GS California. Also came with the 1969 brochure and a handwritten paper with all the previous owners.
Received the following with my '65 Skylark 2 Door Thin Pillar: Protect-O-Plate on original card Original Owner's Manual Original maintenance book Original title Purchased the following on eBay: 1965 Buick dealer sales brochure 1965 Buick "Engineer Approved" Accessories brochure
I have the books including the P O P. I wish the paper envelope looked better, I do not know which book, or books, or if all were in the pouch.
The protecto plates that came with my base 67 LeSabre are both intact but covered with ink like someone used it as a stamp. The car has had 5 owners, all of whom have left a full name, address, and dates they owned it (insurance cards or gas reciepts). I also found 1 complete build sheet under the rear seat, 1 trashed under the front, and a marginal third inside the Left Front fender. Hopefully I can find a way to get that ink off. bigdougsoutho
X2, Bought a salvage parts car and it came with the plate still in the original book but no title, reg or licence plate.
Please excuse my ignorance, but the p o p plate must have been done at the dealer level? And if so, it would be so cool to have the machine that stamped it.
