Thanks a million - learned something totally new here, I'll be checking this when I pull my transmission shortly because I've never checked it out. Thanks! -Bob C.
Ive never had anything but a SFI solid plate on my toys BUT my little Bro's car im getting bolted together for the Nationals has the stock plate and after reading this I went out and checked out his verter nd sure enough cover is only like 1/8in from the crank bolts and when pushed all the way in trans there's like 3/16 clearance so no room to shim.it back so out its coming I reckon, converter is an older TransSpecialities btw,..always sumthin! Ha
Anyone know the conversion fitting I need to install into the transmission case. I'll be using -6AN fittings. Looks like the fittings at the transmission are not pipe thread.
You're looking for -6 AN to 1/4 in.-18 NPSM. See http://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/transmission-line-adapter-fittings/fitting-size-1/minus-6-an?N=4294906753%2B4294947251 for starters. I've seen them in stainless, but don't remember the supplier. Devon
Thanks Devon, was looking at E Bay, found these, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fragola-Per...-BL-/331370348944?hash=item4d27364190&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Russell-640...0R4-/331600783523?hash=item4d34f268a3&vxp=mtr One has a sealing washer, the other doesn't.
They aren't pipe thread as you determined, using pipe thread either leaks or cracks the case Summit has their house brand for like $20 comes with aluminium or nylon sealing washers
My transmission guy told me to get these, http://www.jegs.com/i/Russell/799/640520/10002/-1?parentProductId=1398395 He also said if you use the NPSM thread you need the washer because you will be able to run it in all the way BUT, If you (and you apparently can) use a NPT to AN fitting you have to be very careful not to over tighten or you could crack the case. Tony
I think the Frangola fittings just have a black anodized washer on them. All of these adaptors I have seen had some sort of soft (copper, aluminum, or nylon) washer on them.
OK, next question. At the radiator, 1/2-20 inverted flare to -6AN? Is that the right size for the radiator cooler?
The fittings are inverted flare at my radiator cooler and accept the stock steel line. Haven't looked recently, but I don't believe those fittings are removable on my Griffin aluminum radiator. Not sure of the size.
Looking at these for the radiator connections, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Earls-Fitti...ale-/331365445322?hash=item4d26eb6eca&vxp=mtr
Have looked into the Jiffy tite kits/components? Im probably going that route on mine im all about ease of serviceability
Yeah, the quick release-couple stuff, I like it, but right now, just trying to get all my fitting sizes right. Can anyone confirm the 1/2-20 inverted flare for the stock radiator fittings?
Yeah, so are mine now that I just went and double checked. Sorry about that I did change my previous above post to reflect new findings. Tony
Stock GM and many aftermarket in-Radiator trans coolers after '67 are -5 inverted flare.. That is 1/2-20 thread. JW
