I Have been keeping up with this thread from the beginning. Havent read it all summer. Way to go on getting it back up and running and to the track. Would of been neat to see what your heads flowed. Good luck :TU:
Thanks Gents, was a very fun project, and we're really happy with the results. Btw, I was launching at about 2500 rpm, but not consistently.
I have enjoyed this thread because we have the same exact set up except I have just a port match, I'm adding headers in the next two weeks i do have a TA113 cam and lifters that I think will work well with the new aluminum heads and intake that are comming out. Hi Steve, Good job on your engine build. I just got my 350 running and have a TA 212 cam, 9.91:1 static compression, no heading porting, but I am using Hooker Header. My car also has a M-21 4-speed. I am only pulling about 10 inches of vacuum. I think the carb I am using (off an Olds 403) is screwed up and am looking into getting a 350 4BBL Q-Jet. Did you have to change anything in the idle circuit or is that part of the carb completely stock? Thanks!
Hey Anthony, here's the specs on the QJet: .069 primary jets .043 primary rods 12/32 float level high volume accelerator pump CL secondary rods B hanger The idle circuit is stock and well as are the primaries. The secondaries have thinner rods and a higher hanger. Vacuum at idle is 15 inches (+/-) depending on the day. Hey Eric, best of luck with your build!

Hi Anthony, yes I believe it's the original carb. At least the number on the carb is correct for the year and manual trans. So is the distributor.
January 2, 30 degrees, sunny, dry in Oakland county and no salt..........couldn't resist the urge to uncover, charge the battery, check the fluids and fire her up. Drove around for an hour or so, running a few errands. Found myself on a lonely straight-away and had to open up the secondaries to 5k for a few shifts. She wanted to fly. I love the way this car just wants more.......too bad the tracks are closed this time of year. Thank you Miss GS for the New Year's gift before the Michigan winter comes back this weekend.
Drove the GS around a little this weekend, it's definitely more tempermental during warm-up in these colder temps, 30's-40's due to the plugged crossover holes, but once it's warmed up it runs and idles fine. Also put a little time under the hood, fabricating a cold ram air system from the grill to the dual snorkles of the GS air cleaner. Want to see if any improvement shows up at the track since last year, before I drop $150-$250 for a system from Jegs. I may have to also use bigger primary jets and rods as I have the stock set up in there now, 69 jets-43B rods. Will try 72 jets and 46 rods.
Andy, I'm not familiar with their specs, but if those camshafts have more than 280 adv degrees on the intake, my build may not have enough dynamic compression to run efficiently. With the TA 212 degreed with 4* of advance, this build had 7.7 DC.
Andy, they sound like they would work great then.........I was actually trying to reach as close to 10.0 SCR as I could get (so as to reach 8.0 DCR with the 212 cam) but I underestimated gaining several cc's in the combustion chambers when we ground off the casting nubs, polished the chambers and ground down any sharp edges to avoid hot spots. I'm not sorry that we did that work because I believe it improves the flame burn, and we would do it again, I just didn't consider the extra cc's in my estimation.
I'm thinking of doing a similar setup as yours but with a used 72 engine with a used Crower level 3 I found and .060 off heads with a light home port. I figure it could be about 8.7 compression with .060 milled. Get .050 shorter pushrod from TA. A 70 4 barrel intake I have. A quadrajet from quadrajet power. 2000 stall I have here and the 350 trans that came with used engine in my 65 special. 3.90 gears

Not yet. Still have to get the engine and confirm starting point. But I did get my season pass to test and tune at Union Grove drag
