Hey all, It's been about a year now that I've been prepping the 1969-1/2 Jeep Gladiator for paint. I spent time bead-blasting the truck bed, fenders, hoods and front clip, wet sanded the body and now it has been painted the original color code 419. Sherwin-Williams replicated the color perfectly with the Low VOC paints required now. So now I have to go in a different direction and remove the cab, remove the electrical and replace it with a new modern wiring harness. The interior of the cab and engine firewall looks worse than the exterior paint. Another year to get it done, currently removal of cab will start soon. Mac
Nice! I have a 79 that was put on the back burner when I got the Riv in 2010. Been thinking about pulling it out of storage and dropping one of my spare Buick engines in it. Truck would pull things my 50 HP tractor couldnt. Used to say if I put the bumper against a tree and she couldn't push it over she would climb it.
Now that Christmas is over I can re-engage into the J-3000 truck dis-assembly. First thing to do is my 1955 Willys CJ-5 engine is rod knocking and blew the clutch too. I need at least one Jeep with a hitch, since the Yellow truck is down for another year. Mac 1970 J-3000 Gladiator, miss driving it.
Looking good, Mac... Your truck is(was) a twin of my latest find (see thread) until someone put the utility boxes on mine. My '69 even has the front marker lights I've only seen on '70 models like yours. Glad you painted it the correct color....
Hello, I live in Concord, CA. and I'm about to start the 68 Wagoneer building Fun? here is what I have Buick/350, TH-400, Dana-20, 44 6 lug front/rear...... I saw that You have plenty of Jeeps and experience so My big plans for this Daily Driver is to rebuild Engine, Trans, install advance adapters up-grade output shaft for the Dana-20, see what gear ratio I have in the Pumpkins, find a tilt steering column "Wish I could make it a 1 key Jeep" Buckets with built in shoulder harness. Rhino line interior, I'm not a AV electrician but as a MMC I could install a Rebel Wire harness?
Re: Tearing down the 1970 J-3000, 2/3's painted.... Update: Nothing changed as of this time. No way will I be selling my Grill, too valuable, especially after re-chroming eventually. My son has medical bills that have kept me from progressing on the truck, so truck still starts and runs, but not on the street. Friend also in Concord, lives and breathes Wagoneer's, but he isn't on this site. One of the original founders of the FSJ-List. He has a 1966 Super Wagoneer (Indian Ceramic) recently painted and a second 1967 Wagoneer. Will eventually get back on board with working on my truck and give my wife back her parking spot back in the garage. Mac
A friend of mine restored a J-series truck back in the 90's. He had a hell of a time finding decent "large" flared fenders for the front. When it was done he painted it gloss black, lifted it and stuffed 33's under it. He was running a 360/4spd in it. After painting it he built a large wooden bumper for it that had "back in black" carved in it. He died a few yrs after that, dont know what happened to the truck.
