Probably spelled it wrong. I have 4 15 x 6 Buick road wheels for a full size Buick in good condition. One is NOS. I live literally 6-7 miles from WHEELZ in Slater, Iowa and was wondering if anyone had a good phone number or address for him. What is his name, what's the current feeling about his services and I will see if it's +/- worth taking 2-4 wheels over. I know there have been some bad experiences but also some good ones.
On behalf of a forum member that is having no luck in getting a response from Curt I went over to his house and tried to speak to him. He was not home, so I left him a note with full contact information and I have not heard from him. Seeing signs of somebody home I again knocked on the door and i could hear someone inside but no one came to the door. The person who contacted me - to contact Curt - has had a deposit cashed for about 9 months and the last contact from Curt was several months ago. Supposedly, 2 of the 4 wheels are done and have been for awhile so it was my hope to retrieve those wheels (at least) and mail them back to the forum member at my cost. Unfortunately, I need Curt to assist. I will continue to try and reach him especially with Labor Day weekend upon us. I can't recommend this fellow for wheel services. Anybody comes to my door, I certainly will speak to them. I also understand but can not verify - that he has not logged onto this website for 4-5 months so it appears he has checked out.
Ya, I sent him a check last fall for two 15x8 and two tires. He said he had one 15x8 in stock and only had to build one. I have tried contacting him many times and have had no response at all. Like many others have said on this site, it sure would be nice if I at least got a return call!!! I would not recommend anyone doing business with someone that does not at a minimum provide updates on progress or non-progress!!!!! Mark If ya want rims built I would go with Steve Caruso in Clarkston Michigan..
I'm not 100% on this but I don't think you can do much with the big car wheels. I think they are only 2 piece units. The center section does not cut out like the A body wheels so the drum can be changed. I think the only thing you can do is cut the drum on the back half and add an extension but then back spacing changes radically. If you have room on the inside of your wheelwell you can get away with some width addition.
I've tried contacting him couple of times and couldn't. I did speak to him on the phone about a year ago seemed like a nice guy, when I was ready to place a order, I couldn't reach him. I took that as a sign to move on, I've learned unfortunately not to do business with people that don't accept credit cards. You send a check or money order you have zero protection. Just my .02
What a difference a "Mc" can make! McWheels in Slater Iowa had a sheriff visit a couple of days ago and there is a refund coming to the party involved. This all could have been avoided with better communication. Since this is not my transaction I won't pass judgment on Curt McKim, known as McWheels, but reading the various negatives - and some positives - should help folks looking for these wheel services. Which I believe is what the forum is about.
So, Mcwheels is still alive and around! Maybe there is still hope I can get what I ordered or get my money back!!! I am the eternal optimist no matter how many times I take it in the back side!! Really wish I was a meaner person as there are folks that deserve it!!!! Mark
I've tried, and I've tried to tell people what the outcome will be, and yet people send off a money order thinking(hoping) that their experience will be positive, only to end up here on the forum posting another negative. As said above, Contact Steve Caruso. Steve is one of our own, a Buick guy, a member of Michigan Chapter GS club, member of GSCA, active member here on V8BUICK, he's honest, hard working, and takes pride in doing a great job, and provides excellent customer service/communication. Hopefully this is the last negative post we will have to see about POOR quality wheels, and POOR customer relations!!!
i ordered a set of 15" wheels from Steve Caruso, he answered all calls and emails promptly, and is shipping them when he originally said he would. they should be in route by now. haven't seen them yet but don't expect any problems
I was working on behalf of the individual that caused the sheriff visit. Basically, I tried 1st with knocks on the door on behalf of a forum member that had no results for 9 months. When my friendly efforts failed, then the sheriff was called by the party with a dispute and this information was relayed to me. Additionally, the date to provide a refund was again ignored by Curt, requiring a 2nd more serious visit. Finally, a money order refund was provided. ---------- Post added at 03:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:35 PM ---------- Mark I don't know your particular case but I would contact and seek the assistance of the Story County (Iowa) Sheriff Dept. They have a good sized file on him. I can't say anymore, serves no purpose. ---------- Post added at 03:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:39 PM ---------- Tom - I hear you. My curiosity is that McWheels keeps stating he can't get a reliable supply of "rings" or "Loops" or some such thing. So how is Steve Caruso getting the same parts or is he using a different process. Perhaps Curt is correct that he can no longer get assembly parts he needs to fulfill orders, therefore, he is effectively out of business.
Interesting news. I talked with him today and was going to order some but after reading this, I'll try someplace else. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
