I run the Comp Cam Pro Magnums and have had them in for a long time now. I run that pop mechanics cam in my 350 and about 58-900 it is done. They do not bleed down at all, I went out and just started the car this year and the lifters did not make a sound when fired up, the lifters are great. At least they were 10 years ago when I put them in. The lifters that came with the cam totally sucked and I took them out and bought the Comps.
I installed the Comp Pro Magnum lifters in my 462 no other changes were made . Oil pressure is 20# @ idle & 75# @ 5600 rpm, Yes I said 5600 with power ,never pushed it any higher but I don't think there is any left in this combo. The extra 500rpm does make quite a differance . I would like to thank everyone for there input on this subject, you have helped alot . Thanks ick
Thank you for presenting the issue in the first place. I certainly learned a lot from the discussion.
Just a quick update on the Comp magnum Lifter swap , tested @ 11:00 today 3 runs , runs stronger than ever @ 3000rpm & up . I run it a little harder today to see where it would go & still pull strong answer 5800 rpm NO problem at all. The cam I am running is a Scott Brown 226/240H13 - 505/484 lift before the lifter change it would pull no better than 5100 with power... these lifters work plain & simple with the aggressive flat tappet profiles! ick
Comp's website says the High energy lifters are the disc-type check valve. But no mention of what check valve is in the Pro magnum. Did u get a chance to open one and see?
No I didn't ,the pro magnum lifters have a strange stamped steel collor all the way around the top to retain the plunger, but if I had to guess I would say check ball style or something on that order because when I shook one it rattled & I could feel movement inside the lifter that had some mass to it.
