Okay, I know Q-jets were first available on the 66 models, but mine was made in 1965. So it could have been available on a 65 Skylark Gran Sport as a dealer installed option. Just like all the 2x4 setups on 65 Gran Sports! Right? :Brow::Brow::Brow:
And before anyone says anything about my Ford blue engine, it came that way. I will not bolt a red manifold on it, I promise.
Guess what,66s were made starting in July 65,and if that is the date cast in it 10-18-65,it definitely is for a 66,if it was a 10-18-64,then yes it would be for a 65.
It's a early 66 manifold, production for the 66 model year I believe started late sept,early oct of 65
Maybe I don't get out much but thats the first casting date I've seen that doesn't require any level of decoding.:shock:
The qjets started in 1966..... I was working in new car make ready at a chevy dealer when they came out.... and when I looked at them, I thought , ''well, that is the end of the competition''.... but when I got down to the strip, the guys with holleys were regularly beating them....i thought , how is that possible??? but it aint how big the bores are on a carb that matters , it is how much air will flow thru those bores.....if you have a lot of stuff blocking the bores, they will not flow near as much..... I would put a spread bore holley on that puppy, right after i did the ddp mod/port match to the heads,,,, to get the full potential out of it.... and keep the heat in it.... that would be a strong running combo....:Brow::Brow::laugh::laugh: good manifold.....:Brow: but dont forget to put a air cleaner that is bigger to accomodate that bigger manifold/carb......other wise you will choke the system down.....
As Doc said - the Quadrajet was one year only - 1966. You may have an early production car or manifold, but regardless of when it was built, it is a 1966 model year. BTW: (And I'm kinda serious) - I will swap you mine, pay shipping, and a nominal sum of dollars for yours. Why? 10-18 is my birthday. Thanks for the comments. I knew that the Q-jet came on Buicks starting in 1966, suggesting I could say it was dealer installed would be a "tongue in cheek" comment. I am interested in the spread bore Holley that Doc mentioned, I'll have to do some research on that idea. I am not a carb tuner, so it has to be bolt on for me.
So I had to go look at mine now! 12-20-65! If you want it to run really well, paint it green! Just saying! I have a spread bore Holley, came with my 73 - I think it's a 650 CFM #4165, you can generally find them on e-bay for 200.00 or less...And I will never admit it again but it gave me less trouble than the 76 Q-Jet I built for it which I'm still dialing in the choke.....although the Holley did take a pretty good shot at burning the car to the ground when the rear diaphram let go.....!!!! Good luck, thats a great project and I think you'll like the results which ever carb you go with ....I did.

Makes sence Doc, your not going to make a 66 model and promise a manifold later down the road. Pre-prodution was in July of 1965 and probably in the R&D stages in 64. .
Just to set the record straight, I was fully aware that the Q-jet wasn't available until 1966. I was making a tongue-in-cheek swipe at all the 65 GS Skylarks with "the dealer installed option". My guess is there might have been one or two Skylark GS that arrrived with the setup in the truck and that the dealer installed before delivery, if that. I have never heard of the Q-jet being installed on a 65 Skylark GS by a dealer, but I was electronically winking when I made that post. Sorry if I wasn't communicating in a perfectly clear manner, but I thought I was pretty obvious in my intentions and knowledge of the subject.
That was understood...my comment was meant as a generalization. I've even had folks contact me trying to dispute the 1966 dates on BBB 430 engine testing documents I own, believe it or not! Devon
