The Buick was in the trailer, in the campground at BeechBend when I took these. I know many folks with Buicks have seen this track when it was a little warmer:grin:. I am sure traction would be an issue on this day:laugh:
I don't have a pic of it, but for several years my '71 was the only set of wheels I owned. I was working at a dealership in Bethesda MD. and I was on snow detail for the lot. I lived about 55 miles away and there was six inches on snow on the ground. Anybody familiar with the DC area knows just how bad the area is prepared for snow. Anyway I left about 3 am and started on my way. Major roads were pretty good and there was nobody out, so I was doing pretty good. As I closed in on the last four miles or so I started thinking about my approach to the dealership. If I go the normal route then I have a tight right turning and steep exit ramp from the highway to make, or otion 2 is a nice straight exit and a trip around a mall the long way with only one hill but the hill is a straight shot, but these surface streets were not plowed yet so it would be a longer trip through now a over 6 inches of snow. So I took option 2 and went around the mall, but when I got to the hill I did a stupid thing, the light turned red and I stopped, hindsight I should have just ran the light as nobody was there and I was moving. But I stopped and when light turned green tried the get up the hill, no dice, I just sat there spinning. I eventually slide over to the side of the road and hit the curb, this was just enough of a hit to move me forward a few inches, so I just kept bumping myself off the curb and eventually made it over the hill to work. Only took me 35 minuites and 1/4 tank of gas to get up that hill.
Funny story! I have had some similar situations with 2 WD vehicles up hills.... Now I make sure I have an AWD or 4WD vehicle for winter... I am going to put a lift kit in my chevy 2500 so I can drive out of the ditch easier if I end up in there... My old Dakota 4x4 that was lifted was amazing! I used to drive in the ditches for fun and it never got stuck even in 3 feet of snow.... :TU:
This is our 70 Stage 1 in the Washington Mountains. On this day the original owner and his nephew were out for a day of play in the snow. Lucky for us they didn't use salt up there, so the car survived without any major rust issues.
Well I could finally take a picture of my Buick in the snow. It has been an unreal year in Colorado this year. It is December 9th and we still have not had one snow that required a shovel. It is really odd to not have snow here this year. Colorado is a tinder box. We are going to be in some serious trouble if things don't change soon. I don't think they will. We are battling forest fires still in December. Crazy.
Pat here in northern AZ our fire risk/danger is in the high range also. No snow yet. I could deal with some rain though. 2 or 3 days of a slow rain will help. You can have the snow:grin:
Yeah it is really something around here. We are a dry climate usually anyways. Colorado winter this year is something we have never seen. Been here 45+ years and never ever seen it this way. The world has literally changed. Colorado ski resorts will prob have their worst year on record by the end of the season. Here is a pic from the Chicago blizzard of 67 with a Buick or two in them. GTO or two in the pics also. Little bit of everything...
Woo Hoo we got maybe two inches... Never wanna hear your woman say that... Ha ha couldn't pass it up. :idea2: Sue was in her sparkling white so I took a couple glamour shots this morning.
Oh yeah I hear you there. We are soooo dry out here. People better start giving their trees and lawns some water or there is going to be a whole lot of dead everything around here come spring and summer. We haven't had really even one good snow here this year. Glimpses here and there but nothing real. On one hand you are like cool I can do whatever outside but it is not good for our environment at all. I am no doomsdayer at all but the world has shifted period. Go look up Rainbow Falls in Hawaii. That is really scary. Huge huge waterfall out there. I have been there and seen it in it's glory. Beautiful spot in Hawaii. Was once the wettest place on the planet now it is sand basically. Ok back to snow pics... This is what we are used to. This was Dec 20 of I think 07. All this snow on my car at work by ten am.
I seen this post and now I will add some photos. No great old Buicks just drivers. Thats an 83 Buick Regal body up on blocks thats covered with the tarp.
Here's one of my previous GS shortly after it was painted. I remember how it pained me to pull it out of the garage to do some work on another car that day.
