72 Skylark 350 used to be My car and I go back many years and I was looking back at some of my older posts and pictures and I realized, Other then a small shot with "It" in the background or a part or piece here and there I've never really posted many whole pictures of the car which I call "It". I recently decided to change the wheels that have been on it since 2001 or 2 and although I like the wheels(Cragar something or anothers?) they've never really matched the cars beater look. They were litterally swapped onto it years ago because they had better tires then my Rallyes did at the time. The Rallyes were left on another car(a 72 post car) and it was sold with them on it a few years ago when I was taking a break from the big car hobby. Grrrr. I finally decided that the steelies and dogdishes were the look I wanted so I bought some E-bay dogdishes a few weeks ago and a set of brand spankin new Wheel Vintiques 15x8's and 7's last week and that prompted me to take some before and after pictures of the car, Hence this thread. Ironically the very first brand new set of rims I've ever bought are reproduction standard hubcap wheels. ??? These are some pictures of the car and the wheels which I rattle canned today. I'll add the finished pics after I get the tires mounted tomorrow. I know some will ask so the tires are 225/70/15 front and 275/60/15 rears and I've run that combo forever on the car.
A little more info, 1972 Skylark 350, Right after I bought it I put a 350 I had on a stand in it. It was strong running daily driver with that little motor that could in it. Best time with it was 13.84 at 100 mph. I put a 3:42 posi in it. Rebuilt the turbo 350 that was in the car twice before putting the big motor and turbo 400 in it. Had a cam go bad in the 462 and that and other things in life is why I parked the car in the garage for about 8 years and used it for a shelf. And maybe why some of you don't remember me or my sometimes twisted sense of humor from years ago. I am not a newcomer to the Buick stuff. For some reason this new V8Buick will not add the pics in the order they were downloaded or added so it gets confusing. Heres a couple old pictures from back when the car actually shined and also there's one showing my long gone 72 post car aswell and it shows the current wheels which were on it and came on it when it was bought as a parts car. Believe me. The pictures look better then it was. El mucho rusto in that one. :ball: I've parted out a few cars in my time in the hobby and although my car was born as a Skylark it now has many GS specific parts. I know that does not make it a GS but it's closer then some guys who claim to have a GS. I just claim to have fun with my car. Sometimes at others expense but it's all in good nature.
Just a short video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn2qY5XWCVA&feature=g-upl&context=G2b48a8fAUAAAAAAApAA
Took a trip to my local Discout tire co. this morning. Bought a new pair of rear tires to go along with the fronts I bought a couple weeks ago during the front end rebuild(that's on another thread) and I'm very happy. The rattle can paint matches very closely and unless you really pick it apart I think it looks great.
My car started life as a 72 Cortez Gold skylark. In just a few weeks she will emerge from her hibornation as a Saturn Yellow GSX convertible, or something like that Maybe "it" is what it will be
If you don't mind what did the wheels cost for the 15X8's? I like it. That color when its fresh is one of the best 70's earth tones
Hi John and no I don't mind. The rear wheels(8's) were bought off Summits EBay store and were $175.85 with free shipping. In case anyone else would wonder too. The fronts(7's) were $163.85 also with free shipping and those prices are per pair. I didn't think that was to awful.
David, ive been watching that same video on youtube for a long, long time! Thats the same cam as is in my soon to be dynoed 462, and everytime i need a little boost in inspiration i look up that video, crank up the sound (in stereo!) and just listen to the beautiful sound! P.s. I like the steelies painted to match! That looks slick!
That's awesome. Be sure to post up a video of your own once you get the car running. I've got several others on YouTube aswell. There's no proof like video proof :eek2:
Steve, I believe you're right on the Super lite II's. I have the receipt for them somewhere. Right now they're in the steel wheel boxes and I haven't decided what to do with them. They actually are only half owned by me as I and another Buick buddy share ownership. They were on a parts car(there's another story for another day)that we bought together years ago. The agreement was and still is, if and when anything was sold we split the money. Bud hasn't decided if he wants to keep them or sell them. He's not a board member but just like me, Has a 72 clone. The red one in this pic.
Going through some drawers I found what I believe is the oldest picture(s) I have of the car. It has to be very shortly after driving it home or within a week or so. I bought it a couple weeks before Thanksgiving in 96 or 7. Here "It" sits with it's Sears RoadHandler white wall radials on the original 14" Rallyes. The old guy that owned it had all the maintenance work done at Sears so it had Sears tires, Battery and shocks and I'm sure everything else they could sell him. It also had a Midas muffler on it. Well maintained was an understatement. They were asking $3500 so I offered $2500 which was promptly turned down. They accepted $2800 the next day. These are scans since it was before the days of me owning anything digital.
