http://www.holley.com/0-76750BL.asp I had this thing sitting around and decided to install it on my '71 350 engine with adapter plate, because my stock carb needs a rebuild. So I started the car and it idle'd very badly and was impossible to drive.I could not open my eyes when I was at the back of the car.I turnd the 4 corner idle mixture screws all the way in and it still kept running, then I turned the idle screw so the throttle blades would be closed and yes, it was still running! Fuel level was little low on the primary window and in the middle of the window on the secondary bowl. Vacum was lower then 7 but its 18 with the Quadrajet.Bad power valve? What kind I should buy?
If it was sitting around, why not just take it apart and throw a rebuild kit on it? Sounds like it could use it. If you had 18" of vacuum with the Q-Jet, you should have the same with the Holley.
I agree with Jason. If its been sitting on a shelf dry for more than a year, a new gasket kit wont hurt. The ODD time the carb will get some crap in the needle and seat and clog it preventing it from closing causing a super high float level. When this happens the fuel will usually spew out the vent tubes. You just pulled out the needle and seat and tap it in your hands to dislodge the debris, and blow through it a few times. This doesnt sound like your issue though.
OK guy's, I took the damn thing apart and there is no gasket between mainbody and base plate??? Also some skrews were loose and power valve wasent turned all the way in.I wonder if thats the reason I'm the third owner of this thing? It looks like a brand new carb and never used. http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b419/Piston_Freddy/Buick/IMG_0792.jpg?t=1315156472
Got the gasket and the carb works! What would be the normal jet sizes for a stock 350 with TH350 and 2.73? At the moment it has primary(70 something),secondary 80 and 6.5 power valve. Thanks!
