Im about to swap out the 2bbl on my 72 for a 4bbl. I do not have egr or AIR pump. There are 2 different manifolds I have the option to get, ones a 70 and other is a 73, but Im not sure which would be best or easier to use. The 70 looks like the choke set up is different from the 73. Any recommendations?
I think the '70 intake would be the better choice as it does not have the EGR set up like the '73. The '70 also has the divorce choke set up already on it unlike the '73. You would just need to get a dash pot for the '70. Your '72 idle stop solenoid would not work on either intake - only the '72 intakes had the specific holes to mount the '72 idle stop solenoid.
On your 1972 2bbl intake right now - you most likely have an idle stop solenoid on the driver's side which pushes against the throttle. In 1970, Buick still used a dash pot - basically the same idea but it was a stand alone piece and not electric attached to the wire coming off the main engine harness. It just mounts on the intake with bolts. Would this be a part I could purchase through someplace like Original Parts Group or would I need to find a NOS piece on ebay? So other than the dashpot, everything else from the 70 should work ok?
After doing some forum searching it looks like the only reason for the dash pot was to adjust the idle when the AC was turned on. My car does not have air. Can i get by without it?

So the 73 is cheaper and in better shape...and the guy selling it will be coming through town this week and could deliver. Could a block off plate be installed over the EGR port and then just find a divorced choke set up (if they can even be bought)? Just trying to cover all the basis

The divorce choke assembly you will have to get used - you can post a want ad here on the board. What kind of carb are you going to use on the intake? For a stock 4bbl Buick Quadrajet you should use the assembly - you can get away without it if you use a newer carb with an electric choke - but the stock Quadrajet really is probably the best carb for the Buick engine.
Im planning on using a stock Buick QJet. Its has a stock rebuild. This is only a temporary upgrade until the big block can get finished...alot more costly than I imagined. Thanks for all your help!
You are very welcome - as you are using the stock Buick Quadrajet, just put a wanted post for the '70 divorce choke assembly and someone on the board probably has one to sell to you.
The intake on the left, I assume is the 70, already has the proper choke setup for a q jet and should be ready to go with a 72. As long as the spring works correctly.. Should be a direct swap except for maybe vacuum lines and such..
Beats me.. But where will you bolt on your thermostat housing and connect the upper radiator hose???? If you compare the two intakes you will see that they are as different as can be.. The old cruddy looking one is a Buick.. I suspect the other is chevy..
I think they are both buick 350 manifolds. The one on the right is turned 90* compared to the one on the left. The thermostat housing is on the far right in th right hand picture. But I agree with Jay on using the /70 one.
