    Hello,

I have a 1964 Buick skylark that i found with a original 300 in back of a junk yard in orange county, CA. I stripped the car, sandblasted everything, made the body straighter than factory. A small undertaking of a frame off restoration for the last three months. Now I have started putting it back together. Now as for the engine situation, the original 300 had top of the engine missing when i found it, but I have a 401 nailhead and transmission that is strapped to it, from a 1965 wildcat floor shift auto. I think you see where I going with this, I would like some info from the group as to what needs to be done in making the swap. Such as, motor mounts, front spring rates, brakes, steering clearance, header clearance, etc. As soon as figure out how to post pics i will show off some of what i have done.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thank you. I'm sure this has been the topic of discussion before. I'm searching everything I can find.

I did that swap years ago, when you could still get the parts from a junk yard.... the 2 things that will be hardest/most expensive to come by now will be the motor mounts and plates for the engine and the frame.. and the unique exhaust manifolds.... I see both on ebay on occasion... but they always go high.... You need to set the suspension up for the increased torque... have to change the drive shaft over to the ''solid'' type.. need heavy duty cooling system and air bags inside the rear springs to prevent wheel hop when you get on it....
