Not my car. Craigslist ad from Colorado Springs: "Factory bench seat 4-speed car, originally a 401 but now a 455, needs some work that I just don't have. Clear title, comes with a bunch of parts. Matt 719 661 8307" The ad has two photos of the car -- looks pretty nice. Craig
WOULD BE...very interesting to see what he actually has hooked up...ya see, the original 66 401 4 speed setup will not work on a later model 400-455 motor... totally different bell h, pedals and linkages... that being said,. I wonder just what 4 speed setup he has in the car now?? Things that make you go hmmmmm. uzzled: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
or maybe he thinks he has a 455, becuase his air cleaner said 445 and a 455 is the closest engine he could find? Things that make you go hmmmmm.ou:
ok so curiosity got the best of me, I called. While its truly IS a 66 GS 4 speed, it hasnt had the original drivetrain since he bought it, 1998. NOTHING about the original 401 Nailhead 4 speed parts are included because they are non existant. It now sports a 455, with a bell housing and trans on the floor in his garage. He has never had the 4 speed stuff installed. . prolly cause it would be pretty much an engineering mess to make late model linkages work in that 66 body. Just my guess, AND I could be all wrong here...but I think that is one of the main reasons he is selling it. jm.02cw. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Oh man.I wonder if thats my first GS.I traded it in on my 69 GS400 4speed in 69.my 66 had a 4speed with bench seat, had black interior, this one appears to be black, exterior color looks the same. How many 66 4speed GS's ,astro blue, black interior ,bench seat cars could've been made. When I got rid of it the motor and trans were original.I believe it was a T10. Could a search of the VIN verify previous owners? gary
Gary, vin and cowl tag would narrow cars history down to assembly plant and build date. Previous owner info varies by state, and may be impossible to obtain (privacy laws and such) 'Daily car reports' from Buick would show the # number of cars built with each option, such as the number of GS's with the 4 speed option built in Flint, or the number of 'D' code blue 2 door GS hardtops built. However, they wouldn't show the # of cars with option combinations.
I spoke to the owner on friday night. Is blue with blue bench seat. He believes the only option is power steering. I asked him to look for the protecto plate as he thought he had it. He thinks the trans that he has in the garage is the t-10 orig. I was really tempted on this one, but i do not have the space right now to keep it otherwise I would have snatched it up. The body sounds decent, and in my opinion it is a steal for $2500. He is getting ready to move so you could most likely do better than the asking price. Some one should jump on it, unless someone will store if for me for a year free of charge until spring of 2012 than I will buy it.:Brow:
Sounding more like my original all the time, manual brakes and no AC,and T10.Hope he returns my call. gary

The protecto-plate would have the selling dealers' code on it, and maybe even the plate with the original owners name and address!
