Hi guys, I've been going back and forth whether or not I should put the vinyl top back on my car. I've gone through the '70-'72 thread but I think it would help more if I saw all them in one place. Originality really isn't a factor, the original 350 is long gone so I took on the project as if I walked in the dealer in 1970 with a sales person handing me an order sheet and filling it out. My car is a '70 black interior car so it would help out alot if it was a '70 black interior car. BUT I want to see any fire red buick! Louie
I bought my '72 Skylark vert specifically because of the color combo - I wanted Fire Red with a white interior (as black would get hot in the sun). If I had a hardtop I wouldn't mind a Fire Red exterior with a black interior as I think that also looks very cool. Here are two pics. The first shows you the color on a cloudy day. The second is in the sun.
Louie, did you see the Buick in this auction? Looks like the color combo you are after: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971...6280489?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1e60fe0aa9
Keep em coming guys! I think I'm going to ditch the vinyl top. Who ever bought this car knew what I liked: Fire red, A/C, buckets, console, rally gauges. All they left me to get was a set of buick rallys, a nice 455, a 3:23 posi, an in dash tach, and power windows. Yea I like to go fast with class. I'm cool with the extra weight of the A\C and power windows. The girl would be pissed without it.
Here's mine at the last BOPC show in October, it was a new camera and for some reason the reds are very vivid My car was originally green on green...have to say prefer red
Dang Curtis, everytime I see your car, it sways me to fire red for the convertible. I've been thinking Saturn Yellow for a while now.
Louie, I went back and forth on the vinyl top myself. Im really happy I ditched it. It just makes for much cleaner lines and I think it'll give you the look you are going for.
Louie, The first two pictures that Ted posted are of my car taken a couple of years ago. The color is Fire Red, but its '97 GMC truck Fire Red. Not exactly the same shade as original, it is brighter and really stands out. My car also originally had a vinyl top. When I started to restore the car back in '94 I faced the same question . . . keep the vinyl or get rid of it? Well, as you can see its gone(its not a Numbers Matching car). If I had to do it over again it would be a new debate. I like them with the tops also. Good lUck with your car and keep us posted with progress pics.
Rob, I love the convert. Thats a nice car. James, I think you just sealed the deal! NO VINYL TOP! Also seems like a smart choice since I'm planning on owning this car for the rest of my life as it is my first car and my dream car. Keep em comming guys, they are great pictures.
