I'm in the process of ordering my last batch of parts from TA, I just wanted to know, do I need TA's oil sump that holds 1 more quart of oil? or am I OK with the stock sump? I have a moderate 455.
do you guys use an aftermarket oil sump?

one more question, I'm also looking into buying the 5/8 pickup & I was wondering do 71 and later 400/430 and 455 have it?or just 455s? this would make it easier to find here instead of shipping it overseas

You want the 5/8, and yes, they do come on 71 and up. I think even some late 70 ones had it too.

I bought the 6 quart pan from T/A and the 5/8 pickup that they design to go with it. Be aware that the standoff support bracket doesn't come with their pickup, you need to fabricate one.

The additional pan volume is always a good idea. FYI, there is no 400/430 after 1969, and if I remember right, not all 1971 455 blocks were drilled for the larger 5/8" pickup passage (maybe it's not all '70 blocks as Ken mentioned). You should definitely ensure your block already has or gets drilled for the 5/8" passage and purchase a 5/8" pickup if your engine doesn't already have one.

so the pickup tube is not the same as the stock 5/8 one found on 71 and later engines? my engine is a 70 so I'll be doing the oil modifications when I tear it down.

I've got to be honest with you, I'm not positive of that. To be safe, I bought the TA 1520A pickup tube when I bought the TA1511D pan, although the catalog says this pan will also work with the stock tube. Not sure exactly how if it's deeper. Unless it's not really deeper, maybe just wider than stock. My engine is a 70 also, although it was previously rebuilt and the 5/8 tube was already there, although I do not think the block had been drilled to 5/8 to match. I had the builders do that for me this time.

it's not any deeper than stock.the difference is that there is no dent at rear of pan for exhaust crossover.must use dual exhaust.pan is same as 67 gs 400.

Thanks Ken. Yes, I eventually saw that in their catalog a few moments ago. Good to know. Cool name by the way. :)
