Well, I FINALLY found the trim pieces and clips for trunk vinyl top. Even though I don't even have a car to put them on yet! LOL, i've only ever seen one Riv with this option and it was years ago on a silver one with a black top. Anyway, my question is tied to my previous post about converting the trunk of a 73 to either 72 or 71: will these trim pieces work on a 73 tunk lid? It looks like it MIGHT, but I'm not sure if the trunk hump and dimensions are the same between the 71-73. It seems 73 Rivs are much more plentiful than the 71-72 so if i could end up using these trim pieces on a 73 it would be great. Anyway, thanks for the help.
It is a very different looking car when you see them with the trunk vinyl. Don't know if a 73 will accept the same as the earlier 2 years. Rare is right. Good luck finding out. Pictures after you finish would be great.
Don't have to worry about the 73 compatablity since i found a 72 I will be working with. I'll be sure to post up the pics once I get it done sometime this spring.
Here's an example of what the trim looks like around the trunk lid with the dealer optioned trunk vinyl.
I've never seen a Riv with that option before - I like the way it carries the vinyl roof towards the rear of the car. I used to have a 1978 Cougar X-R7 with the landau roof and it had the same material on the front of the deck lid - looked good but I like the set up on the Riv better.
This might be one of THE Coolest car design's ever in automobile history.:bglasses: Just look at the lines on that beauty!!! The dash is like a cockpit to boot!!!
The ONLY car I'd choose over a boattail is a GSX. Other than the GSX I'd take a boattail over a Lamborghini, vette, M series BMW, SS, 442 EVERYTHING! The boattail is the single most influential design to ever come out of Detroit. No other car has polarized people the way the boattail has. Since day one it was an immediate arguement as to whether it was liked or hated. And THAT is a serious statement in automotive design. The only other car I would even consider buying and restoring would be a boattail. Someday I will. But it will run 10s!
I believe I read in the past that the trunk vinyl and chrome trim was available through George Barris. I remember seeing a handful of cars with it back in California. Always thought it was kinda cool looking.
