ups just dropped off my 30 spline chromoly 71-72 (bolt-in) axleshafts about 4 mins ago! they measure 2ft and 6.25" from inside of plate to end of splines just got some 7/16 press-in instead of 1/2 screw in wheel studs heres a few pics oh, and thanks again monzaz(jdrace.com) for the axles and the rest of the overhaul parts!
Mike, If you do ever decide to upgrade to longer axle studs(slicks,Drag Radials) make sure you get the Moser studs. They are a different knurl size than the Moroso's etc... Nice axles BTW!!!!
thanks, i'll keep that in mind if i ever need longer studs next on the list is a rear disc kit, and a TA rearend girdle, that's all i need to get my axle together! going in is a detroit tru-trac and 3.08 motive performance gearset. this ratio should still be pretty nice to cruise at 75mps on a 28in tire, and the higher gearset will make the turbos spool up quicker :-D
well just got my ta girdle cover sat and heres some 30 spline 8.6 detroit trutrac and 3.08 gears :-D will most likely order the rear disc kit by end of this month..then it'll all get put together
Jim, That pretty aluminum cover will not look very pretty for long under most cars. I painted mine black. No one ever notices it. If someone likes the aluminum look, I always tell them to paint it aluminum. At least you can wipe it down to clean it.
I clearcoated mine still looks good.To do it over again i would clear powder coat it still may. Jamie
Clear coat I agree with too. BUT if you are drag racing it will not matter as people will not see the rear cover when the tires are in the air. lol. Jim:3gears:
lol yep, figured the 3.08s would still give me a nice cruising rpm at 75+ over my stock 2.56 and also spool the turbos up quicker compared to 3.42s once i get them on...and if i feel the need to upgrade to a gearsvender unit i'll still have enough gear to not lugg the engine!
I have yet to see a clearcoat that doesn't yellow over time. All you need to do is paint it with Eastwoods alumiblast.
If/when it does yellow I will strip it off & recoat it or clear powder coat it i will never paint aluminum. Jamie
As long as you do something with it. Bare aluminum will eventually look like crap unless you polish/seal it, paint/coat it.
got my rear disc kit today, from zero to 60 via ebay..but its actually a kit from the right stuff detailing 389 shipped only thing that wasnt pictured was the spacer to which replaces the drum backing plate as it was on the desk ou: first thing on the page was about if youre axle flange measures 3 3/8 from the two top ohles center to center you need there other kit..something the ebay auction page neglected to mention so hopefully mine measures 3.125 otherwise i'll have to return atleast one box! lol
I've had a T/A cover on my 70 car for years with no paint what so ever and it still looks great. A clear powder coat would be my choice. You would think T/A would sell them finished like their valve covers.
