My Hudrod has 401 with biggest hydraulic TA-cam,TA-413-401,stock intake,750cfm Edel and some old headers.I can recommend to light weight hot rods. I dont have any idle or low rpm torque problems even there is TH-700R4 and 2000rpm stall turbine. It has really cool rumpylumpy idle and it pulls very strongly from 900 to 5500rpm.The name of the problem is a traction,it burn tires too much and too easy.It went quarter 13.59 and first 1/8 it sliding from left to right all the time.Fun but not so fast style :3gears::laugh: Btw 60fts was between 2.7-2.8. Track was old airport,it was so slippery. My 1930 A-coupe project will get T-5 manual gearbox and 425 with roller cam and other goodies.
Made a little progress this weekend. Thought I would share with you my new Bullet (401 Nailhead). Of course it needs a little cleaning lol.
Phil, Replying to subscribe to thread; glad to see you posting questions and progress..... Did you find the engine code on the 401 to determine year? Steve
Yippeeeeee!!!!!! Coooooool Thread!!! After the mid 50's Buick Gasser project, I want one of these!!!!!! :beer
That's a 1965 401. Has the 64-66 crank to bolt up to a ST400 trans. The 401's were pretty much the same thru the years.
Thanks Walt. We assumed It was around there because it has the switch pitch switch on the intake but was not 100% as for the year.
^ Thanks mate :beers2: Cameo: I have video clip in my phone, but cant upload it to my computer ou: I will try again tomorrow. I just made a few holes to frame and stainless steel motor mounts. Im gonna weld pipe sleeves to frame holes for the more stiffness. Sorry for OT...
I haven't been on the forum for a while but today I was browsing and saw the 'T' bucket topic and then son Ben's comment about my old ride. It's been on the road every year since '73. I keep working on it but won't let it sit idle. Too much fun driving it. I don't know how to download pictures to the forum - I'll try to figure it out - but there was a shot of the car in last month's "Rod & Custom" in the 'Back To The 50's' coverage. It was really cool talking to staffer Tim Bernsau - who just moved over to Street Rodder. Anyway, if I get the picture thing figured out I'll post some pics. BTW: Use an electric fan. I know it's not period correct but it works. I overheated for 30 years because I was stubborn. It's really nice to not have to worry about it anymore. One of the neatest parts about the car is just the attention I get because of the Nail. It's really "IN" now and I love it. Have fun. Tom
