I'm heading home on this divided four lane and some goof in a Subaru Legacy (with that hood scoop) is driving rather inconsiderately in traffic. We end up first in line and side by side at a red light. He is anticipating the green and inching forward but not paying any attention to me. He doesn't realize he is in a race yet. I tree him by a car and a half as he gasses on it but later than I do. I'm really heavy (5900#) so he pulls up to my front door before I'm in the power band and begin walking him ever so slowly. When he sinks back to my rear bumper I let off and he blasts past. I was up to 55 when I let off and coast to the 45 mph speed limit as he he races off. At the next light a brand new ZO-6 pulls up next to me who was behind us in traffic but witnessed me beat the Subaru. He looks over at me, lurches the Vette and we both laugh. I tree'd him too. But only for about a half a second, by 40 mph he had 15-18 car lengths on me. I don't even think he was really trying either. At the next light he rolls down his passenger window and says he could not believe I got him out of the hole. I just said "PRACTICE". I was driving my Ford Conversion Van with the 5.4 and trailer tow package with the 3.55 gears. Mikey
I don't understand. I see people on this board attracting trouble with pickup trucks and vans, but I've never been threatened once driving my Skylark.o No:
Yeah, I wonder the same thing. Even the d-bag ricer kids just look over and say nice car as they behave when I'm in the Riv. Maybe it's the sound of the thing that scares em?
I know the feeling the kids with the Honda's out here all wanna race my Omega. But the others with cars I know could beat me give me a nod every time I tap the gas.
I was thinking a 5900 lb T type!? haha Great kills. I was scared for a second when you said the Z06 had you by 15 car lengths! hahahahaha I had a 99 Ford F250 single cab long bed with a 5.4. That was the scarriest truck I ever drove. It was fast as hell, locked up the brakes at every stop light, blinkers worked when they wanted to, lights randomly shut off. It was a 1999 that I got in 2000 with 150,000+ miles on it! haha
The only people who want to race the T are either way faster or way slower. I have not had a close race in two years even at the track. They line me up against 13 second cars or 8-9 second cars. But the van everyone wants a piece of it go figure. Mikey
Had a beautiful new Ford GT 40, (yellow with the black stripe down the center) following me a couple of days ago (again I'm in my Van coming from a customers house). He pulls next to me at a light and I can't get him to gas on it at all. Drove 2-3 miles next to each other. I want to see it gooooooooooo! He takes off slower than the Geo Metro. It takes him 20 seconds to get to 45 mph. What a perfectly good waste of fuel. It is not possible to drive that thing that slowly, it's not! Mikey
There used to be a '99 (?) Dodge Viper that prowled the streets around here a few years ago. Anytime I saw him on the street I'd try to get him to race, or at least give it some gas or something, but no go, the guy would NEVER get on it. What really bugged me, was he had a license plate that said "177MPH"..........yeah, it'll never see it ya pansy.
just read this Mike - pretty funny but you bring about a good point ... ... we all have lites that we travel day in, day out and know their pattern. Alot around me go to double red, hold for a quick 3 count and then your lite goes green. Often with lites like these where I absolutely know the pattern, I will practice my leave from a lite ... its basically the same thing as at the strip waiting for the third yellow or whatever you leave on ... ... just make sure there is no cross traffic about to run their red !!
