What is a fair asking price for a 66 401 Nailhead? I received it in a package of parts and do not need it so I would like to sell it at a fair price, but I know nothing about these motors. After reading a few other threads it looks like it is a standard 401, 340 horse motor but not from a GS. Block casting # - 1364705, MT engine code, date code A-10 Head casting # - 1374603 Intake casting # - 1375549, date code A-20 VIN - 6H928518 Supposedly it came out of a 40k original mile car and ran before it was stored. It is all there except for the carb (exhaust manifolds, AC bracket, flywheel, distributor, fuel pump, thermostat housing are still on it). The motor is clean but will definitely need rebuilding. What would a fair asking price be? Thanks for any help.
I have a '65 LT Code 401 I would like to sell. It is complete from Carb to oil pan. Including Exhaust Manifolds,Power Steering Pump & Flywheel. It ran when removed 20 years ago but probably should be gone thru. I will sell it for $375.00. Doug
Hi Doug, But what is an LT Code 401 ?? How was the engine stored ? Any preservative sprayed in the engine ? Thanks , Dan
"L" denotes '65, "T" denotes 401 A '66 401 would be a MT 425 would be a MW or MZ depending on the # of Carbs. Rick
I started this thread so we won't hijack this one. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?p=1375502#post1375502 Rick
I need some help with making an engine choice for the 66 Cat. Originally the 401 engine was installed. Pros and cons 425 or 401 ?
Dan, Rick is correct it is a '65 401. It is stored in my Garage which is not heated or a.c. The engine looks very good not rusty at all. It did not have any preservative in it. If you are seriously interested I will check to be sure it turn over no problem. Please either PM me or email gsdoug@netzero.net Thanks, Doug
