For many years I thought that Buick should have made a 1965 Bucamino GS. But I have recently found out the someone in Ohio has already built one. I have been building a shop (it's awsome) that is now finished and I want to start my projects. I have collected a complete 65 Special wagon, complete 65 Two door post Special with a v6 auto (tranny is shot and engine needs repair, much rust damage in usual places), a 65 El Camino sitting on a complete 65 GS four speed running gear including correct frame (it runs, nice paint) and a few other parts that are too long to list. I was going to repair the post sedan as a driver, build the bucamino from: an old El Camino shell, Skylark dash/firewall assembly, and the quarters off the wagon. And then lift the El Camino off the GS frame and put the newly built Bucamino on it. I would then have to find a Chevy running gear to put the El Camino on as it is a really nice looking body. At this point I am thinking about cutting up the sedan for parts to make a two door flattop wagon with a GS running gear and putting the v6 auto in the El Camino for my daughter to drive in a couple of years. Please note that no 1965 GS Skylarks will be sacrificed in this process. It will leave me with a complete set of quarter panels (off a four door) for the rear of a GS hardtop, when I find one. Thanks if you have read this far. So how cool would a two door wagon be? Specs would be: Doors from a two door sedan with the part around the glass from an El Camino. Front part of the quarter panel would come from the sedan. Pillar at back of the door would be part wagon and part El Camino to give the door opening a round look. The side glass would have to be made and would be one piece. Bucket seats, correct four speed, GS 401 or and LX 425 (have both), radio delele, minimal chrome (old school), dog dish caps, and no console. Or I could build the Bucamino. The wagon would be way easier and cheaper to build and I could start sooner on the wagon as the two door Special would just kind of go away and I will keep driving my old Ford F-250 as a daily driver. Please help as I have a hard time making decisions.
i put a nailhead and turbo into a 65 elky back in the 70s.... why not just do that and chainge out all the trim pieces from a skylark????? btw it had hair on its chest when we got thru with it.....was an absolute beast.....

Yes, that is the car. Not sure about the shaved door handles, but that is one awesome ride. Some doggies on that and the right color......far better looking than any two door chevy wagon. And the cool part is I have all the parts to make it including a four speed 401 with all the accessories! Anyone know that guy? I would really like to know where he got the sideglass made. Them old coots did similar in 5 days on monster garage, sure it would only take you 3-4 more days alone :laugh: How you would section the headlight would be the tricky part. Not the benzel, the glass The ammount you could section would probably depend on how small of stock looking glass bulb you could get in a smaller size.
Though while you at it I would make room for some monster meats in the rear. That will really sell it.

Personally, I LOVE the ElCamino. If I had the talent (and believe me, I don't), I would go for an ElCamino style car before the wagon. -BC

Ok, this is a first for me. I just tried to upload a couple of pictures from Jalopyjournal.com showing a 1965 Bucamino at Devils Run 2004. The angle of the side shot makes the car look like it sags, which I am sure it doesn't, but other than that it looks nice. He must be tired of it by now and would love to sell it to me cheap. :laugh: Of course, I don't know how to contact him so it doesn't matter. The author says it has a 401 nailhead in it, but he doesn't mention what type of transmission. Anyway, you can see what I have in mind. And Jeff, thanks for all the help, I have a feeling your inspiration might cost me a lot of $$$. :laugh: Kurt
