Hiya Jason - what's your schedule in the UK? I think you're heading to Cardiff for the game - is that right? Are you flying via London? (I'm not far from there - and I can get to London really easily for some PINTS!!) Let me know.

    Johnny,
You can still drive the car to have it fixed. All you need to do is take the belt off the PS pump, then you can drive it to the shop and not have fluid spraying everywhere, nor damage the pump. Once the leak is fixed, the garage can put the belt back on and you will be all fixed. It will of course be very hard to steer without the PS working, but you can deal with it just to get it to the shop.

As a footnote: my local experts have taken a look. Turns out the seal has gone on the power steering box. This needs some serious attention before I can drive it again (but the car has now gone away on a trailer, and they will fix it up for me no trouble). I'm told the log in the road - which I drove over - was probably just a coincidence, and the seal was due to fail anyway. So - there is a real silver lining here: at least it happened in the safest possible place, i.e right outside my garage, and not on the motorway. Living and learning!

Sounds like a fairly easy fix my friend. I would concur with the above that it's most likely a power steering hose. If it is a hose, reconnect it or replace it and fill your power steering container back to the proper level. Since this just involves an engine accessory it's pretty easy to deal with. From your location there however I'm not sure how easy it is to get parts. Just be happy it's a minor issue and not a major engine or transmission problem. Good luck. John Biggs. :)
