I just got a '73 Electra 225 2dr hardtop equipped with a factory electric sunroof. A little over 20 years ago, I owned a '73 Limited 2dr with the sunroof, but that car is long gone-went to the crusher. I have never seen any others in the last 25 years. This must be a very rare option. Anyone got a production figure? This 225 is loaded with a lot of other options and has 84K miles on it. It's triple white, too. The sunroof works well and doesn't seem to leak. The car has electric locks, seatback release, windows, tilt, cruise, auto climate control,am-fm stereo,6 way bench seat,p.antenna, and rear defroster. Unfortunately,it has a fair share of lower rust, but not too bad, from being out of the Cleveland,Ohio area.
Hey ted! We don't let'em go with just lower rust.Half way up the doors before we even start thinking about parting with it.If it's only lower you got a CLEAN CLEVELAND used car. Tom
Hey, it ain't that bad! It has 82K on it and runs/drives great. I actually picked it up in South Euclid. It was on Craigslist.
But I wonder how many had the sunroof option? I have seen 3 in 30 years and one 4 door model on ebay and one wagon on ebay.
I remember seeing an ad for a 1973 Buick Electra in the Ohio craigslist that had a sunroof. Must be the same one. Congrats on the find Ted! Got any pictures of it? Keep me updated, you know you've got my attention. :Brow:
This guy on another forum has a 72 or a 73 4 door electra limited which had custom white cloth interior, a tv in the back, and a sunroof. All of the cars this guy has are in perfect condition are either Park Avenues, or have rare options. He has a base model 1976 225, judicial black with white leather interior and the park avenue center console. Is the structure really weakened to the point to where they couldnt install sunroofs on the 4 door hardtop from the factory? There would be no other reason for them not to. see...sunroof on a 4 door hardtop. It kinds looks like the interior from an Oldsmobile 98 regency.
The Electra I got is the one that was on Craigslist. The pic in the above post is the Limited I saw on ebay a year ago. It has the Superfly option:laugh: The sunroof must have been available on the 4dr.The 2dr and 4dr upper roof section is the same.
This car belongs to a guy by the name of Rob.He has several nice Limited and also early to mid 70's Caddys.Goes by Electraman Rob on the BCA board.Junkman, next time your up this way make sure you let me know. You were only twenty minutes from my house.I'll take you to lunch next time. Tom
All I have is info for 1975 and 1976, and is says 2 door only. Previous years do not mention 2 or 4 door. Same with Cadillac, not the 4 door hardtop deville, only the coupe deville. The pillared fleetwood had the "astroroof" available. I have only seen one 4 door hardtop deville with a moonroof. The 4 door roof structure must have been weakened by the addition of a 5 or 6 square foot hole since the glass or metal panel moves freely between the tracks and doesn't act as a load bearing item. The red limited above is a custom by ASC (who installed the contract sunroofs back then I believe).

So,according to your figures,ROBERTA, the Electra I have is one of 5 built. The Limited I had 20 years ago was one of 700 built. Interesting. Thanks for the info. Where did you find the figures?
look how much bigger a standard sunroof was back then compared to how big a standard sunroof is today. Are you sure that they buit manual roofs (flip-up) into the Electra? Seems kind of lowend for a flagship car.
I saw a '73 Riviera in a Bradenton junkyard 15 years ago and it had a factory manual sunroof. It's not a flip up sunroof, but exactly like the one in my current Electra, but without the motor or switch. There is a manual crank handle built into the roof right next to the sunroof. I remember that a friend had a '77 Chrysler Cordoba back around 1982 and it had a factory manual crank sunroof in it. It reminded me of the old VW bug sunroof setup.
