call me crazy but I think I now see a vertical line just to the left of the R on you engine code picture. It could be the bottom of a "T". check it out.
Marco, I have seen a few 72's built in Framingham with the correct VIN but I have never heard of a documented 71 being made anywhere other than Flint. The others I have seen I have very good evidence of them being fakes. My car was a Mass. delivered car and is from Flint. I believe it would have been more cost effective for it to be built in Framingham, MA but it wasn't. That is pretty strong evidence I believe. Just my opinion but have you seen proof to the contary?
Well,I see now from your register that freemont cars are documented but I still doubt framingham for the above reason.
Dave, At the end of the model year, Buick produced reports called 'Daily Car Reports' which depicted cars manufactured at various plants which contained different options. According to these reports (Buick's official records), starting in 1971, Buick built stage1 coupes in Flint, Fremont, and Framingham. These reports can be purchased directly from the Sloan Museum - just ask for the 1971 model year 43437 models - you will see the L75 manufactured at the above three plants.
Gee, I thought somebody would have noticed the rear was assembled 1 day before the strike!:bglasses: My guess is that interior piece was supposed to go in the car before or after this one on the line, unless the piece was changed from another car in the past 30 years(slim chance). More importantly, that R is either a boo boo,:error: or was refering to the cylinder size(each cylinder had a stamping for that purpose). I think you have to take the head off to see the whole picture. I wouldn't worry about it though, because everything else sez stage 1 (except the paper work!:shock: ). That is great info Marco. All the visible characters look very Similar. What you can see of the "R" has a big loop and where the leg comes out seems to be in the same place. The "S" is also very similar. Even the "2" has the same kicked up tail. What is the build date of that Stage 1 Engine? Thanks for posting those pics.
I don't know the block casting date, but the car was assembled fourth week April 1971 by Fisher Body (04D), several months after yours. That employee just couldn't get it right...:laugh: Ain't that the truth!

Stefano, is the upper radiator hose original? That is a correct configuration original. That shape is not available that I know of anymore. Even the one Kleiner sells is wrong shape. I would kill for one of those. Does it have a date code?
Bill Dreiling! that's a name from the past I hadn't heard for a while. It's good to put cars together with the histories/ stories over the years. As for the upper radiator hose. IIRC, when I went to get a replacement several years ago I got a Gates hose by asking for the correct application. The number on it is 20574. It won't pass the judging at the car show but it will work and fit correctly with the radiator, fan shroud and air cleaner. BTW, is anyone making a high quality reproduction shroud for the 71 455 w/ air? The one I have is a very poor quality piece which I don't even remember who I got it from now; Year One, OPGI or where.
no one makes a good shroud. You need to search for a 71 Electra. smae shroud as 71 455 GS.......I have been trying to avoid the currently available hose. It is a one size fits several app. Also use on Olds 455
