Just got the 68 I'm fixing up into the body shop, and took in a selection of front fenders. Two of them are from a Riv GS, the other two are from a regular Riv. If the body shop guy decides to use the GS fenders, I told him to just fill the extra holes where the GS emblem went. But now I'm thinking, hell, if the GS emblems are available, I might as well put them on, this isn't a concours resto. So....anybody know if the GS emblems for a 68 Riv are the same as the GS emblems for an A body or whatever? Thanks!
I would almost bet the mortgage they are the same as the '68 (A-body) GS 350/400 side emblems as well as the '70-'72 GS side front fender emblems. I seem to remember the (rear) quarter GS emblems on my prior '69 GS 400 had different mounting hardware using acorn nuts instead and maybe shorter studs. All in all, I think that the position of the studs is the exactly same (as far as the drilled mounting holes in the sheet metal). I am not sure about the '67's which is the year this style of GS emblem came out. Contact Flynbuick ... he will find the answer.
2 68 RIVS, I just forwarded a PM to you that RIVMAN sent to me in answer to the same question. There is a guy on ebay that sells repro's if you need them, although I believe TA & Poston sell them too. Good luck, Randy
. . . are they the same Randy ? o No: If you did Hawken, you would lose the bundle - while they appear to be the same visually, they are not ! The mounting studs are totally different, ( 3 thin studs vs. two large studs and a locating pin), and the correct GS emblems are thicker than the proper thinner Riviera 'GS' emblems. :TU:
The ones I bought on ebay were the thin ones with 3 prongs. I wish I could remember the guys name, but it escapes me at the moment. He sells all kinds of reproduction emblems, so a search on ebay should turn him up. They are definately not your standard GS emblems from the Skylark models. Here are a couple of pictures of the 67-68 Riviera GS emblems. Sorry if they are a little fuzzy. Hope this helps, Randy
Randy, thanks man, I see an auction on eBay now for a single emblem, I think it was $57 and change, but can't see the mounting studs in the pic. Auction says Skylark or Riv, who knows, maybe. Thanks again.
The guy I bought them from has an ebay store called Genes Buick Parts, and goes by "genebp" on ebay. He sold me the pair for about 60 bucks. I don't know if he has anymore or not, but you can contact him and find out. You might be able to find them cheaper. I got mine as a "Birthday present" from my wife. Someday I might even tell her about it.....Later, Randy
Gr 8.147 67-69 9000 pt#1361251 Monogram-front fender "GS" I have a set of flat GS emblems with a pt# of 1381655 that look very similar
Im thin king that the number on the back of the emblem is the casting number and not the part number http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-68-69-BUICK-RIVIERA-GS-FRONT-FENDER-EMBLEMS-NEW-1967_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ80736QQihZ016QQitemZ260208007186QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
Thats the guy. Pictures are even the same (I copied his to keep for a reference). They are real nice emblems, but do not come with the nuts. I know some of the purists would rather have originals, but it would cost 3 times that price to have a pair of crusty originals stripped, filled, polished, re-chromed, and painted to look as good as these repro emblems.
Your probably right - sometimes emblems, trim pieces come with attaching parts, and as such, they have a different part number. :TU: Hawken . . . been there, done that, and still learning ! :beer  :TU:
Was it this seller? http://stores.ebay.com/GENES-BUICK-PARTS_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm I have him saved under favorite sellers. I've read somewhere recently that the Riviera GS emblems are thinner than the A-Body GS emblem.
Dale, Gene is the guy I bought mine from. Post #10 has a link to one of his auctions for the thinner 67-69 Riviera GS emblems. Later, Randy
I was in the Imperial Palace in Vegas a few years back and they had a '67 Riv GS for sale for around 30K, but the GS emblem was too thick, like the GS emblem I had on my 70 GS convertible. Since the hood wasn't open and it was roped off , I assumed it was a fake GS car. BTW-this not withstanding, if you get to Vegas , take in the car collection at the Imperial Place-best free car show you may see.
Thanks guys, I ordered the GS emblems from the eBay store guy (Gene's Buick Parts), they were shipped right away, and I just checked them against the fenders, looks like they're just fine. Thanks for the help! Hey, while I'm thinking about it, I asked in another post about radiator mounting pads or isolators or insulators or whatever the correct term is, but they're the rubber things the radiator sits in, top and bottom. Only thing I've been able to find is some generic items that don't really fit, but would work sort of. Any ideas who might have NOS or repro? I know CARS doesn't. Thanks.
Re: Radiator Pads I don't think correct repros are available Jim, just the generics with the single mounting tit. Good 'used' is probably your best source for correct ones. o No:
Thanks again Randy, I think you're right, I won't find correct pads and I'll probably just reuse the ones that came off the car or maybe use the ones that are only similar in that they're rubber also! I gotta be nuts to even worry about the pads when I'm using a Ron Davis radiator with dual Spal fans and shroud anyway. Just thought it might be easy I guess.
