Tom I'm sorry to hear this and I'm a bit ticked off about it also. :af: I get a lot of requests for parts from internet users and thought I do this non-internet using old fart a favor by sending some folks his way. If he's going to do buisness that way then he's off my list as he's not doing anyone any good. I'm glad to see you got your money back and you are just out your time. I'll keep looking around for you and see if I can come up with anything. Thanks
Thanks I appreciate the extra set of eyes. He seemed like a decent guy and stuff happens, but it was still irritating. What are ya gonna do, life goes on. Any help on this search is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
correct me if i'm wrong but i just read on the repo parts site that there is a person manfacturing these lens and back up lens and gaskets sets. rocwal Dan B
Dan, I think you are probably thinking of me. :Brow: I'm actually making the parking lenses for the 65 Skylark and GS which are different than the parking lenses for the 65 Special. The reverse lenses are the same for 64 and 65 - Skylarks, Specials and 65 GS. Thanks,
Any chance you would like to make a run of the special lenses? I already have a pair of your back up lenses...
Tom as much as I'd love to, the reality is that the parking lens project for the 65 Skylark / GS has still left me about $6k in the hole and I'm reluctant to do anymore plastic molding projects until that project at least breaks even. When the original poll went out on the board, there were a lot more people out there that said they'd buy them that actually did. I tried to base my prices on the number expected to sell vs. the cost for tooling and production and it was always a break even deal at that. To do a quality job of making the parking lenses like we did runs about $10k and this was all privately funded by me personally. The reverse lenses have done much better and I'm actually within $1k of breaking even on that project. With the small number of demand for these parts, there is really no way to make enough profit to justify this as a business. My intent was to always do it for those who needed them and hopefully make our 64's and 65's look good at the shows to kick off a new generation of interest in our cars. Breaking even was always my expectation since i needed to replace the money I borrowed from myself and my wife and profit was always a nice to have. I don't want this thread to sound negitive since cars change hands, money is tight for everyone right now and many folks did follow through with the purchases they promised, but the net of my story is that when enough people don't follow through this simply hurts us all. Buick folks are a very small group and we'll always remain so if we don't start supporting one another. I'm seeing this affecting other members of the board regarding parts: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=151847 with our clubs: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=151919&highlight=BPG+GS+NATS and even with this forum: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=126049 Sorry if I sounded negative and I'm even more sorry that I cannot say yes to your request at this time... I would honestly like to take it on along with a few others.
I don't want to hijack this thread but the lenses I make can be seen at www.DamnGoodAutoParts.com The numbers match the originals. Please send me a PM if you want me to send you the actual numbers from the lenses. Thanks
No I mean what is the original part number? I have a set of backup lights still in the GM boxes that I bought when I worked at a dealership many years ago and I want to make sure they're the right ones for my '64.
Jim, you might like this: http://www.65gs.com/64-72 Buick Master Parts Catalog/64-72BuickSpecialindex.html Go to the pages section and look for page 233 Look for section 2.697 I have several other manuals online also if you ever need them for a part look up. http://www.65gs.com/manuals.html Enjoy :beers2:
Yes that helped, thanks! I do have an original set of backup lenses in the yellow(ish) and white boxes.
