Fine the correct term for driveshaft in buicks own word is Propellershaft Carrier holds the gears inside the pumpkin Axles are removable Differential, rearend, and drum to drum are the same thing. Does that consolidate the terms? I asked what cars will a ( differential, rearend, drum to drum assy) come out and fit into the A body without modifications. Discription of modifications....not moving the spring towers. Not mod-ing the control arms. JW stated only 64-72 A body only.
You asked why you weren't getting any answers and I told you why.o No: Sounds like you are annoyed that I tried to clarify the question. In any case you have your answer.
Nope, not annoyed. Sometimes it takes a different view to find the problem. Thats why in the aircraft industry we have ALOT of inspectors. lol:TU: So, next question. What drum to drum assy will go under the A body with minimal work. For instance. Can the spring pads be rewelded but the arms bolt correctly?
Well, If you want to do some welding, I believe you might be able to make a G body rear work. I think you might need to modify the upper control arms and spring mounts. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=145679
Thanks Larry buick455v8 wrote this G-body rear axles for a-bodys CAN be made to work. You have to lengthen the upper control arms. If that is the case, wouldnt you just use your stock uppers? Or is the geometry off? How much? A kit would be great. Larry I need some further help. PM is being sent.
Don't know Troy, I just located a 1971 8.5 10 bolt out of a GS350. Picked it up cheap and built it up. I like doing things the easy way:grin:
A Type O Olds 12 bolt is not an 8.5" ring gear. Pop the cover off one a take a gander. They are WAY to big for an 8.5" carrier. I would say they are closer to 9" than 8.5". The rest of the rear is closer to an 8.5" than a Chebby 12 bolt. You would think an Olds site could get it right.:idea2:
Mine is a 72 10 bolt 8.5, my uncle asked if it was posi-track or not! I was not sure, but told him I think it does! So it does then! He always asks about these things like he has something over on me!
Pull up in your uncle's driveway lay down some rubber and then ask "Does two stipes mean its a posi ??"o No: :3gears:
what about the leaf spring cars will the 8.5s from them work in a abody providing you weld the mounts on them
