Steve, I notice in the second picture the line of spot welds on top of the tank. That would indicate that your tank has the baffle running the width of the tank. How did you handle that?
My whole theme with this car is stealth so I bent up a 3/8" steel line from the pump to the holley line. My tank is new too. I undercoated the top. Before I started this, I searched for a 1/2" pickup and had no luck. No way would I have modified my sender if I knew about the RobbMc 1/2 pickup/sender. ou: Looks nice and price is right on. Question for the guys that drill out the 3/8 line in the sender. What do you do with the sending unit?
Regarding the baffle, that was one issue we noticed with my tank. I ordered the 1972 gas tank, since that's what my car is. I won't need all of the vents it has, but I wanted to get the right tank with the filler neck installed. When we discussed sumping it, he noticed that there was a baffle in it that may be a problem when it comes to cutting and installing the sump. The other issue being what it took to weld to the galvanized coating and that it could only be tested with gas. And once it was, it couldn't be re-welded. Then he showed me his Chevy II's setup and that he could do it pretty easily for me. Had RobbMc came along two months ago, I'd have one of his pretty ones. I'm hoping that the baffle serves the function of keeping gas at the 1/2" pickup since I'm going that route. I remember Rick Henderson having some starvation issues with a modified pickup in his '70, but he also had issues with the electric fuel pump he was running. He went to both a sump and a higher power mechanical (one of the trishield billet pumps) and had no more problems.
RobbMc, I find it interesting that your pick-up in the link has the tube pointing straight down instead of swept toward the back. Any reason for this?
The 68-72 A-body sending units only bend back about 1" at the bottom, primarily so the filter sock will lay flat during installation rather than get bunched up below the tube. It has little or nothing to do with optimum tube location

I did some testing on thursday and it's still running out of gas. Pulls like crazy in first and second and just as I shift into 3rd gear it noses over. I had about a half tank of gas in it. Is that enough? My next step is to install the correct pre-filter from RobbMc. I hope it's the temporary NAPA filter that is causing the problem now. ray:
Hi Andy, Another filter alternative is a semi truck unit.It is the size of a BBB oil filter.The base into which the filter screws allowed for 1/2" line as I recall.I have this as a pre-filter(with no post-filter) mounted just ahead of the gas tank.The car pulls pretty good in third(as much as 3.08's will let it). Hey Rod, all is well here, hope the same up there. I'm familiar with the filter you describe. There was a nice one, along with a brand new(1 race) $450.00 fuel cell, on the orange car I sent you a pic of. I disconnected the wire to the TCC and it seemed OK until I did that testing the other day. I have to change the TCC again. Also, the weather is starting to warm up so my next purchase is going to have to be the new Alumitech rad. I have an AED Holley HP1000 and RobbMc 550HP pump. I only installed the NAPA pre-filter temporarily until I got the RobbMc pre-filter but I have to admit, I thought the NAPA filter was going to work. Wrong again!! ou:
It's behind the kickout in the frame. I picked that spot so I could service the filter when I have the front of the car on jack stands for oil changes and so I can clamp it to the frame. There's a pic on page 1 of this thread. heads are TA Stg2 SE Gessler level 3. Just going on the dyno sheets of the engine I copied and by RobbMc's stats, the pump should do the job no problem but who knows, maybe there are other factors I didn't take into account.
