My 71 Skylark has brand new stock springs all the eay around, but I think it sits lower than I would like. I want to lift all 4 corners only about 2 inches. What is my best route to go? Jay
you can search for either taller springs with the same rate or find spring spacers that fit between the body and the spring. I had mine up about 1.5-2 inches for header ground clearance up until recently. I have to admit, I liked the way it looked immediately. I've never been a fan of a saggy rear. However, with the stock suspension parts I found that I couldn't get the amount of caster I wanted in the front end and I had a wheel hop problem in the rear. For these reasons I lowered it back to what I think is close to stock. Still, my car sits higher than the assembly manual shows, which is fine with me as long as I can get my suspension working right. I scanned the page that gives the factory measurements and posted it below just so you know where your car sits as it is now.
Eaton spring in Detroit Michigan. They can add or subtract height to springs as they have the specs for most OE springs. A bit more $$ for custom height, but better than block or air shocks. Just my .02
yes, the stock front suspension was designed for a specific ride height. When you change the ride height you might not be able to align it properly. This depends some on how picky you are about how the car drives. Of course you could always modify your stock parts, fabricate or buy aftermarket and get the specs you want.
You can always use different type of spring spacers. I used a new thicker isolater rubber for on top of coils and a 1/2 thick rubber coil spring spacer that fits on the bottom to raise it a little. With cc501 moog springs I believe.
