Something I really like is a really smooth idle, or even silent. Almost never achieved here, wondering what others do about it? I know it is possible. I owned a few of the 62 215 engines with 2 or 4 barrel carb. But to one I attached a Jetfire setup, a draw thru 1 barrel into a turbo charger compressor and then into the intake manifold. This engine would idle so smoothly at a stop light, passengers would ask me if it was still running. I could not feel it either, but I knew it was still running by the gauges, the OIL and GEN lights stayed off, plenty of manifold vacuum. Perhaps the 1 barrel gave all 8 cylinders the identical mixture, or the compressor did a great job of stirring up the carb air even at idle? I would love to be able to duplicate this. Bruce Roe
Or a Hybrid, or any late model car, the engine shuts off at stop lights. Seriously though, adjusting for the highest vacuum at closed throttle helps idle as well as more timing at idle. Vacuum advance hooked to manifold vacuum?
