Rob - I may have mentioned before but my Mom is from Kennett MO and my Dad was from Senath MO (...that's almost Arkansas!).

I've got relatives in Poplar Bluff, Sikeston and Cape, and my family owned the hardware store in Blytheville Ark until just a few years ago.

I told my dad one time, I said: "Dad, when I think of heaven, I picture 1930's era farms down south..."

He said: "Son, 1930's farms down south are why I am in Michigan!"

With the recent dark clouds around here, I figured I'd add another to story to this thread...

A few weeks ago we had a service, and as usual most of the family still lived locally, but some of the non-immediate family was from Kansas City, and they happened to be driving a newer BMW...everyone prior to the service was all over that car, looking at it like it was a space ship. Pretty low-key funeral, and a typical funeral procession for around here (mostly 4x4 trucks) except for this BMW. The cemetery is about a 20 minute drive, through our typical "remote" surroundings...this was at our Missouri location, which only sits 10+ miles north of the Mo/Ark border in what folks call "Lapland", as you'd have no idea which state you're in without a map. Anyway, we get to the cemetery, and everyone is again around the BMW. We of course wonder "why?", and have to take a look...well, it turns out a DEER had ran out of the woods and ran smack dab into the driver's side door during the procession! Out of all the other vehicles there, it picked the BMW as it's victim. In the deer's defense though, that was probably the only other vehicle (besides the hearse!) in the procession *without* a loaded deer rifle...:Brow:

    ****BONUS****

Dad ordered some fiberglass parts for his Nova project a couple weeks ago, and since they were being shipped via a freight truck they had to deliver to a business address, so we sent them to one of our offices. So yesterday, the freight truck shows up, and before unloading the driver comes in the office to verify the recipient, address, etc...but the driver has the weirdest look on his face. So he says, "this is Clary Funeral Home, right", dad confirms, and the guy says "I have a delivery for you, and it's marked, umm....BODY PARTS".

I'm a Medical Examiner...I've worked in TX and Arkansas, and grew up in Illinois, where I got my education. I've seen things in all three states that would straighten your hair. AR has nothing on either TX or IL. When people make jokes about AR, I wince a little, because it's the most "normal" of all three states.
To give you just one example, in TX, I dealt with a case where a philandering cop shot his wife, and shacked up with his millionaire mother-in-law, who paid his legal bills, knowing that the cops felt that he'd killed her daughter..... When the local DA HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE, and said that we(the ME's) had ruled it an accident (we hadn't), we made a number of calls. The "Rangers" wouldn't return our phone calls, asking them to look into the possible corruption of the DA, who had apparently accepted a large contribution, to make it go away. To this day, I have NO respect for the vaunted rangers, who chose to avoid trouble, rather than ferret out the truth. As a post-script, I learned that the county in question voted the old DA out, and the new sheriff and DA got the case reviewed, and got a conviction. I thank God that He allowed me to get back to Arkansas by then. I have never seen corruption in AR, like I saw in TX. The taxes are lower, the property is greener, and the people themselves are just as honest and decent as anywhere else.
