If anybody out there's had an X-frame ('58 Special) drag car through NHRA/IHRA tech/safety inspection, did they make you put a driveshaft safety loop on the car even though the frame itself is one?

    Thanks,

Reminds me of going through tech in 1980s one Wendsday for T&T. One butt-head that did not want me to race wanted me to install a bigger flat washer under one of the seat-mount bolts like another one had (car only ran 9.60 in the 1/8).

I showed him, I was back in 20 Minuets with the change made  .

I ran a couple of 59 Chevys several years ago and they had the same setup, I realized that it was unlikely that the shaft could stick in the ground and flip the car, but after being hit by NHRA a few times and told not to bring it back until I had a loop, I just put one on anyway.

I'm using a long-tailshaft Th-400 so it's within 6" of the frame opening. Our NHRA tech inspector said that it qualified.

Good, glad you found one with some common sense. Like I said we just gave up and made one. Have fun.

I was at Englishtown a couple years ago and they told me my seat belt bolt setup (stock seats with 5 pt race belts) was not legal and that they needed to be thru bolted. I am using the stock welded in nuts. I thought that would be good since it was for the stock seatbelts. They said it needed to be thru bolted with washers. I believe that is if you are not using the stock setup. They ended up saying "fix it before you come back".

Only track ever to bring that up......

I have used the stock bolts for years and never had a problem. But they may get me this weekend.
