This is just words of wisdom for those folks on this forum buying parts - if you buy something and tell the seller that you want it, then be honest and buy it! If you don't want the part, then say so instead of leading the seller on. I have had several buyers for different parts telling me that they were going to send a check for the part. I waited several weeks and nothing..no problem, so I emailed back to find if they still wanted the part. The replies are "yes", "I will sent the check out today". Ok, soooo, another month goes by and nothing. Now, I waited two months and nothing.
Buyers need to understand that the seller also has to get shipping estimates on the parts. This means packing the box and going to UPS/Post office to get an estimate on the shipping before the part is shipped. Therefore, PLEASE be considerate on the Honesty if you really want to buy the part OR at least email the seller back and say that you really can't buy the part. Naturally, this only applies to a small percentage. Thanks everyone! My apologies for venting out.... ;-(

  2. Ken, I can sympathize with you, though I've had very good experiences with buyers here. In 2+ yrs, I've only had one buyer simply not send payment, after telling me for a few weeks that it was coming. IMHO, if payment hasn't come in a couple weeks or so, I would feel no obligation to hold the item for that buyer.

I did not feel it was appropriate to post the names but I felt that they would read my post and think twice from now on. Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean.........I have the same problem. It almost makes it not worth answering when somebody is looking for something. Sad part is, when you hold something for the first person who replies, they never come through............then the second person, who really wants it, has to wait and usually finds another one somewhere else by the time you figure out that the first guy stiffed you.:af:

    Hey,
We don't need that kind of negative people on this site. Have you made the administrators aware of these dealings??? I know Jim W. doesn't approve of these kind of things going on, and will take the steps to remedy the problems.

I say, report all these Deadbeats and make sure we all can rely on each other:Smarty:

How long should one wait before making a formal inquiry?

I sent some parts out about 3 weeks ago and still haven't recieved payment for them.
I sent a PM to the buyer almost 2 weeks ago asking about payment, but they haven't logged on since I sent it, so they obviously haven't read the PM. But I'm sure they've had the parts for at least 2 weeks now.

They might be out of town, or just real busy ..etc... and I really don't want to make a big stink about it.
But the question remains.... how long is too long to wait?

  10. I do not ship parts until payment is received first, unless the buyer is someone I've become reasonably familiar with here, regardless of how many posts they may have made. Rick, I think you're long overdue to send a reminder to your buyer. IMHO, 7-10 days is plenty long enough to have waited. Buyers and sellers need to be responsible enough to take care of their deals in a timely manner.

RED GS 1, yes Mark has made us aware of the issues he is having with his buyer, and it is being addressed.

    Ah boy.. growing pains...

You know the old saying, those that live in glass houses don't throw stones..

I have been guilty of slow payment a time or two, and have need a kick in the rear to write the check. I don't mind when someone emails or PM's me, and says "do you still want it" or in the case of cores, "have you looked at them yet?".

I don't mind the honest mistakes so much, we all make them, and no one should be offended if a customer is inquiring as to if youi still want a part, or when something they bought will be shipped.

I know I am guilty of forgetting a thing or two lately, not sure if it's from working 100 hours a week, or if it's the first sign of old age at 37.. :Dou:

I tell you tho.. lately this whole parts for sale forum has been pretty rough. While I am sure that the vast majority of transactions happen smoothly, there have been some issues that I have had to try and mediate for some members. Sometimes I can, sometimes not..

At times, I think that I should just take the whole classified section out, and just keep it a tech and fellowship board. So a word to the wise guys, if your thinking of pulling a "fast one" here, think again, because if I have to pull the classifieds, I will name names, and go into why I had to do that. Nobody wants to see that happen, least of all me.

So lets make sure that we all do a better job following up on our purchases, making sure we represent our for sale items honestly, and try and keep the greed factor to a minimum.

    Hi guys,
I guess I will have to be the first "buyer" to reply, as I am not a seller at heart, but am in "acquisitions" mode.

I can't tell all of you how much I appreciate the opportunities that this site has given me to find some very hard to find parts. All of my dealings with folks on this site have been VERY positive, and it stings me to see others taking advantage of you. I have worked very hard to be honest and trustworthy in all of my dealings, and I am personally offended when some deadbeats make it harder on people like me to earn that trust from you guys.

I am not so naive that I think all of us Buick folks are as decent or honest as we should be, but I agree that when we find a scoundrel, we work to her make them public or eject them from our midst. The difficult part is trying to be fair about the whole thing. I must say that I have been impressed by the moderators' and board owner's restraint in some cases, to make sure that their actions are measured and fair, and I know this will continue. I think the only thing to do is to somehow put the deadbeats on a list that the moderators can use to limit their posts until they have come clean, paid-up, or returned the parts.

Just know this: all of us are here because we like buicks, need parts, or like to talk with other Buick enthusuasts. If one of us is hurt, all of us feel it in some small way. I am supportive of whatever is decided. This site, and you guys are too important for me to do otherwise. Also, I would like to say a huge THANKS to all of you. Dan:beer

Dan, you are a great guy to deal with! This thread would have
never started if everyone conducted themselves like you:)

  15. Dan, unfortunately you're talking about a lot of time and attention required in order to have the mods/owners maintain what you are proposing. Keeping in mind this is all volunteer time. When a buyer or seller warrants it, they are banned from the board. However, a very good reason not to take that action TOO soon, is so that the board is available to them for communication purposes with the other party to their transactions. One very BIG strike against some guys, is their apparent refusal to reply to inquiries from a moderator regarding one of these problem transactions. I've experienced this a few times when trying to help a member resolve an issue. In the end, our only recourse becomes banning of the member from board access. We can't do anything else. It is definitely a Buyer Beware marketplace here. I would never suggest to anyone here to ship parts to a member without getting payment first, unless it is a buyer you think you know and trust from their previous activities here.

Boy I sure hope the classifieds don't have to be taken off the forum. Parts for our cars are hard to find and one of the good points of this forum is the parts availibility. Mike D.

Being a member who has been burnt recently by a non-paying buyer, I have learned my lesson about shipping parts before payment is received. But I did think I had pretty good rapport build up with the buyer. We had even talked on the phone for over an hour.

And besides that, there has been three separate instances where honorable folks on this board sent me parts before I could send payment.

I appreciate what the mods can do and have done and really appreciate the classifieds. Please don't remove them. The rewards have far outweighed the losses.

what about a simple sellers rating system similar to e-bays . ? . that could weed out a few bad apples . as long as everybody waits for $$ ( not checks ) before shipping , then just have to worry about sellers mainly . maybe a couple/three catagories -late parts/replys , incorrect/junk parts , inaccurate descriptions , poor packing , outa line shipping costs , etc . 2 cents . del
